Bert, it wasn't right for City but in your case I would definitely advise a name change.

what a waste of time that all was then by Allam - anyway no matter our official name in the Media will always be Hull and its location will always be on Humberside :/

I always thought it was Kingston-Upon-Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Whittling Stick

The City and County of Kingston upon the River Hull, The East Riding of Yorkshire, according to my birth certificate.

That was an administrative region. At the time, the officials said it wasn't a County or a postal district. The County bit was only really added by a power crazed Beverley Councillor. I forget her name.

I agree, but it was sadly true.

In the unlikely event (well I suppose 4-1 2nd favourites is reasonably likely) we win the FA Cup, a parade to the Guildhall would give the Allams the chance to say sorry for calling their own fans hooligans and turn things round in terms of their popularity. Most City fans probably want to be able to like them. They did get us Brucie after all.

Does anyone know why the founders of the club only used the Hull bit?

It was shorter. And less common, there's already a few Kingston's out there...

Because Kingston upon Hull's never been widely used?

Same reason it's not Great Grimsby Town I guess, or Stoke-on-Trent City.

Looking back on really old Photos a lot of stores / advertisers only used Hull
I wonder if it had any relation to the citys stance against the King back in the day and through time and habbit the Kingston part was unused and the Hull part was taken up
I dont know if Hulls - Kingston was the first , if it was there would be nothing to confuse it with any other Kingston
Not that , that would have really mattered Historically as there was no real easy way to communicate globally for it to really matter :/

    edit
May even have been how the towns ships/trawlers/boats were registered as it was the dominant Job in the town , or just bloody laziness heh!

It seems the @FA will reject name application as they're not convinced by the commercial opportunity argument #hcafc

    No surprise whatsoever there.

The 'Kingston' bit wasn't popular way back when it was 'given'. Part of the reason was a rejection of it's predecessor "Wyke" after someone bought us.

We just don't like people renaming us. It's genetic.

The other Kingston evolved over time from Kings Stone, rather than a forced Kings Town.

If true this is great news, maybe AA new this was going to happen and the reason for the poll is to see if we want him to stay!
It's going to be very hard now for him to save face and not sell the club like he threatened to do.
I hope he does stay and on the poll it might ask No for the name change but want him to stay as owner, the only way for him now if the fans come out and support his ownership!
