I see that the Prem League with the FA have decided that there will be no replays in the FA cup from round 1 onwards. Apparently no consultation with EFL clubs.

Yet again, the rich few ****ting on the football pyramid.

What are your views?
 
Surely these decisions should be made by the whole football pyramid, not just a few elite clubs. Did this happen now before the regulator is set up?
 
Typical of the Premiership who think it’s only them in the pyramid and ignore the other 72 clubs
It could cost smaller teams millions in TV rights if there is no replay against the big teams
The EFL should mount a legal challenge to this unfair decision.
What makes what remains of the magic of the FA Cup is the David v Goliath fixtures and replays

Apparently they don’t like the fixture pile up coming toward the end of the season partially caused by replays in the FA Cup!!

Tranmere and Grimsby have already put out club statements berating the fiasco - it would be nice if some of the “bigger” Championship clubs did the same!

Do you mean that team that recently were also a non league team, no sorry their name eludes me <laugh>

Well they could choose not to take part in the FA Cup if it makes their seasons so terrible !

The FA keep referring to “an increasingly congested calendar” as being part of the reason for this alteration.

Whose calendar ? is what I would ask.

Since the play-offs were introduced I am not aware of any difference to the playing calendar for all of the teams outside the PL.

Those teams playing in Europe seem quite happy to bag the spoils from as many games as possible and it’s the same in the international game where the authorities seem to want to increase the number of teams taking part in the World Cup Finals and the European Championship purely, it would seem to me, to increase the revenue stream for those taking part.

Yet again, everyone else loses out.

The EFL wishes to clarify further its position in respect of yesterday’s Premier League and Football Association bi-lateral announcement over the removal of FA Cup replays and the role of the League’s representatives on the Professional Game Board (PGB).

The agreement which now sees the abolition of replays from the competition format was agreed solely between the Premier League and FA. Ahead of the deal being announced there was no agreement with the EFL nor was there any formal consultation with EFL Clubs as members of the FA and participants in the competition.

In September 2023, the EFL did initially discuss with Clubs potential changes to the FA Cup format but only as part of a wider and more fundamental change to financial distributions. As is now clear, there has been no movement in this area since September.

This latest agreement between the Premier League and the FA, in the absence of financial reform, is just a further example of how the EFL and its Clubs are being marginalised in favour of others further up the pyramid and that only serves to threaten the future of the English game.

The EFL today calls on both the Premier League and the FA, as the Governing body, to re-evaluate their approach to their footballing partnership with the EFL and engage more collaboratively on issues directly affecting our Clubs.

A separate issue is the role of the EFL representatives on the Professional Game Board (PGB) in agreeing to the 2024/25 overall fixture calendar. PGB is there to make technical decisions across the game as opposed to key policy decisions such as competition changes or formats.

Any decisions taken on the calendar involving EFL representatives are in no way an endorsement of the joint deal agreed between the FA and Premier League that imposes changes to the FA Cup competition format in isolation.

As part of the discussions the EFL representatives did challenge the position and were told that Clubs would be comfortable with no replays. They were effectively advised that, as a result, of it being an FA competition, the fixture list needed to be agreed as presented. It is also important to note that this matter was not discussed by the FA Cup committee, a separate group that oversees the competition across the professional and national game.

Maybe if we didn’t have several stupid and unnecessary international breaks during the season the poor dears would have more time for league and cup games

£30m is chicken feed just over £1m each...... they should make it for the top 21 clubs left after PO's ...[at £30m = about £1.5m ]
 
Now that the PL season is over, you’d think the teams would want a rest. After all, the fixture list is becoming increasingly congested isn’t it ??

I now see that that Newcastle and Spurs are flying half way around the world to play a f**cking friendly in Melbourne, Australia with the former team in action a few days later against a local team!!

You couldn’t make it up could you?!!
