Great to see attitudes like that still exist Cym, that sounds like a Sunday lunchtime pub conversation from 1988, I thought football had become all serious now and we want home droaws against Diadora Biscuit division sides ?
My favourite away game last season was Blackpool. If it's anything like the last time they were out of the top division it could be forty years before we play them again
Good memories of last season's 3rd round trip. Leeds still hold the highest ever away attendance at the Emirates (along with the largest average away attendance in England). Hopefully it will be a better result this time
Knew someone would ask that, turns out while Premier League away attendances are capped and can't rise above a certain amount (I heard it was about 3,000) football league away attendance aren't. Leeds last season away attendance average was 3,484. Meaning that Leeds can get away attendances premier league club can't. Or at least this is what I have heard from quite a few fans and saw something similar of the official website early this season.
must be higher limit then, defo a limit though . Leeds sell out pretty much all our away matches. Some get really high, such as the Barnsley were we took nearly 7,000.
I know Blackburn give local teams 6,000.I don't think there is a limit to be honest. It's up to the home team and the police
Is there a published list of Premiership away attendances? Also, do any of you Gunners know what the average gate receipts are from one of your home games? Ken Bates will be pocketing half of that sum with it being a FA Cup game, so that will be nice for us lot to witness.
I think we made around £43m in gate receipts last season, with around 25 homes games ?? Which is around £1.7m per game .... Rough estimate, I'm sure someone can give you an exact figure
I know we've been given 3,000 tickets for Villa away but we've been told if we persist in standing our allocation will be cut in future
THAT is what's important in this. Firstly, it's a home draw - more cash in the coffers, and it has a good chance of a very high attendance as it's against Leeds. Secondly, Man Utd v Man City - one goes out of the cup and loses a few million in revenue. That doesn't affect Man City much, but it does affect Man Utd. It won't break them, but going out of the CC & FA Cups early leads them to being a good few million worse off. My hope is for a draw, leading to a replay, going to extra-time and Man City winning on penalties, leaving both teams exhausted and Man Utd losing the few million a decent cup run would bring in - plus the demoralisation of losing to City!! I'm happy Arsenal got Leeds, they should win (although it will take a strong team), and it's at the Emirates.
We have the worst stewards in England at Elland Road. We can stand up the first 2 minuets of the match before we get "can you sit down please" or face ejection from the stadium. That's why I love away matches, 90 minuets of standing, only sitting down at half time. We desperately need specialist standing areas in England so people can stand up without blocking peoples view. And then people who don't want to stand, don't have to because someone else it in front of them. Germany's got it right, standing areas and some top flight adult tickets are only £4 (I heard), makes atmospheres there amazing. High prices and the sit down brigade (brother of the prawn sandwich brigade) are ruining English football's great atmospheres.
