and of course Smithy <cough> Spurs <cough> The foundation of the Premier League in English football occurred in the early 1990s. The first major step to its formation occurred in October 1990, when the managing director of London Weekend Television (LWT) Greg Dyke met with the representatives of the "big five" clubs - David Dein of Arsenal, Philip Carter of Everton, Noel White of Liverpool, Martin Edwards of Manchester United and Irving Scholar of Tottenham Hotspur.[1]. The meeting was to pave the way for a breakaway from the Football League. Dyke believed that it would be more lucrative for ITV if only the larger clubs in the country were featured on national television and wanted to establish whether the clubs would be interested in a larger share of television rights money.[2][3]
but notice the "big" clubs change but for pretty much all clubs near the top of the pyramid the filthy lucre is a driving force as it is desirable / essential .
Yes. But could you have imagined some footballers getting 10,000 A WEEK?...…(Some more, many less! Makes you wonder what clubs have to do to pay 'em,apart from winning!) Makes you wonder how the Torquays and Suttons exist today!
Football stinks mate. And of the filthy rich want to **** off and make a breakaway league. Please let s make it happen soon. The sooner they are gone, the better.
Some of the greatest FA Cup matches have been replays. 1981 Fa Cup final replay was a classic with two of the best goals the competition has ever seen. That MacKenzie volley is almost forgotten about cos of THAT Ricky Villa goal. 1999 Ryan Giggs goal, the sending off and the missed penalty. 1980 spurs down to 10 men through injury at old Trafford... Glenn Hoddle in goal ¹and a very late Ossie Ardille winner. 1979 ... we took 3 ...THREE fecking games to beat non league Altringham ...think we finally won 3 nil with a colin lee hattrick. Most fans could name their own classics. To me it is a shame that the premier league snd CL hss pretty much killed the fa cup. 3rd round day was my favourite day of the season...it was so exciting following all the games on a saturday afternoon on the radio and when I was able to go to matches I would take a radio to hear all the match reports on the way home. I know I am becoming an old git but football is pretty souless nowadays.
We would love to be successful enough to face a fixture pile up like poor old Liverpool 30+ in the first team squad plus a full sized under 23 squad gives all the players their chance of glory or at least playing If they really want to to ease their tough playing schedule opt out of the domestic cups or better still get rid of the group stages in the European cups
I agree with the FA Cup replays. Many memorable games.....and they had to screw that up.Couldn't blame Boris for that...….!? Remember sitting by a "wireless" waiting to hear if your team were drawn against Romford or United? I certainly remember having to get up early to line up for a ticket at Tottenham and finding the line going around the ground and saying...…….! Many times!!!!!
Some people like penalties after a drawn game. I hate 'em.Heck with an extra game. It used to be the fans game. No longer! "The poor man's game they called it!" How you can't have a replay after a Cup Final is beyond me. In a hurry to go on holiday<I suppose!!!?
