Yeah Rick Parry absolutely will be the centre of this. Not sure he's ever done right by the EFL clubs.
I am sure he is on this professional game board, or he was. It was him and a rep from a club from each division. Think it was the ceo at Bristol City at one point. Mind you the fact it has 4 EPL reps for 20 teams, and 4 for all 72 EFL tells you where the balance of power lies. EFL now saying they werent consulted ot agreed to it. Going to be messy. As I said earlier I suspect this is the opening move in the revenue distribution deal, time will tell.
I would imagine most are quite happy at the prospect of no replays. TBH replays, in a pure football sense, make little sense. They do for the lower league clubs who need the money, that is all really.
Massive part of FA Cup folklore though. As much as things have to progress, we can't keep chipping away at our traditions.
that's what it looks like, replays for a decent size club are nothing, but for some clubs if the get a replay at one of the big boys it literally pays wages for a year for them,
Yes mate, and to be clear I would keep them. Just trying to put myself in a championship clubs shoes where the impact of a replay amd associated money is likely to be less of a big deal. In an ideal world clubs like ours come out and say this is all bollocks and we want replays to be reinstated so that teams lower down the ladder can still have a day in the sun. Imagine if we did that, or even better Man City did it, would put the cat among the pigeons.
Tbf I don't think it's that bad. Cup is a competion and should be settled over one game. League fixtures are for home and away. Think how many lower teams have knocked out big teams over one leg.
