Was it me or was that glaringly offside? I’m watching it silently while reading to my three year old…
Valuable experience for the younger lads. Nunez and Cordoba probably the only 2 to look up to this level.
I'd agree on those two but I was impressed with Schwartau throughout the game. I can't remember him giving the ball away and he defended well considering he's still only 18. Dobbin needs more time and matchplay but he could fill some of the whole left by Sainz. Sargent looked sharp considering and wasn't far away from a point blank header. Forson looked good in the first half and had his shot gone in rather than hit the post, we might have been more competitive. Hills looked a long way from this level. Fisher made a difference when he came on. A lot will depend on how quickly Jurasek can settle in and Sargent get match fit.
The project is to buy kids & develope our academy boys , obviously they aren't all going to be the finished product & some will just not make the transition. I would rather that than buying players with experience at the end of their careers & with time i think the management set up will get a settled side.
Exactly the way I feel Dunc. We are at the very beginning of a reset still, and it’s far more exciting to see these youngsters given a chance
Another positive is I also thought Sargent showed his pressing skills when he came on - he was a bit rusty, but definitely evidence of what we’ve missed with him out. I like Crnac but he doesn’t have the experience or the guile (yet) to create for himself or the consistency/ruthlessness needed to be a guaranteed starter
Yeah so (appreciate this makes no difference to the result!) this is the still from the BBC highlights of the fourth goal. Welbeck is miles offside and even though he doesn’t touch the ball, it’s ridiculous to suggest he doesn’t affect play because the defenders move to get goalside of him. However, even if he’s not, the goal scorer (top of the pic) also to me looks completely (every part of his body) offside in this still based on the lines of the pitch
Well done Rob! I agree about developing young players, but they need the support of older, experienced players to do that. Adegboyega made a big point about how much he has learned from his older CB partner at Dundee Utd. Our younger players need the same so a mix of ages works better IMO. Brad Hills could have done with such guidance today.
Hanley & Duffy are shot , we need a commanding centre back to bark orders at the kids & show composure. It always looks panicked
Duffy only came on in the 79th minute when it was already 0-4. Most of the game we had Cordoba(23) paired with Doyle(20), two lefties, then Cordoba paired with Hills(20). That was asking for trouble IMO.
I'm saying Duffy isn't first choice centre back if we need a strong motivator. He's been average this season , I would hope we might sign a decent continental style cb from Denmark or Czech Republic
