Ok, decent win it must be said. What would you rather have our of this season, FA cup win or fourth place? FA cup for me, no question.
Too long without the FA Cup, that would be my first choice. (we have even let Arsenal take our record wins )
To win something would be a possible kick start, become a habit. Getting fourth means money, which is irrelevant, and entrance to a competition we won't win anyway so is pointless, we are as well going directly into the Europa league and make a better fist of trying to win that. There is also the added bonus that the board/owners won't agree with this argument so would get rid of van Gaal for not 'achieving' fourth. Win all round.
After my prediction of West am smashing you 3-0 I'm going to go for you beating Everton 2-1 in the hope that my superb record completely shafts you.
Rooney had no positive impact on the game whatsoever - he can easily be sold without weakening the side, in fact, the contrary - these youngsters need to keep playing as a unit, week in, week out.
He came on at 90 minutes, what exactly are you expecting? It is utterly ludicrous to suggest that one nineteen year old and one eighteen year old is now our permanent strike partnership.
Wouldn't matter unless Liverpool also won EL. At which point it would all be pointless anyway as the world would end in a sea of fire
Strangely I would go for 4th over the FA Cup. The loss of revenues/kudos from not being in the CL would affect transfers and overall perceptions of the club whereas, as nice as the FA Cup is, its a bit like a good holiday - all forgotten in a few weeks. It certainly doesn't have the status it used to.
Fair enough. But a winning mentality and going through a trophy winning campaign can build players. Once you've been there and done that, you become a little more mature as a player and can draw on that experience for bigger things. Typical example is Carrick. Do you think he would be the same player if he hadnt gone through that period of success? The same applied to the likes of Giggs, Rio, Rooney. Btw another good example of what I'm getting at is the Carling Cup win 2006 after the previous 2 yr drought. And how we built following that.
I agree entirely, but LvG has screwed that as well. The Paint trophy cup was an ideal way of introducing the youngsters to the big stage, integrating them with the first team etc, but our overall performances have been so poor and LvG's selections so erratic and unpredictable (plus we have been booted unceremoniously out of the paint cup) that nobody, not even the first team have been playing next to the same team-mate for more than three matches - hardly the way to bond the squad. Hopefully we can get rid of the problem and build a stronger squad and compete on more fronts next season than this and give our youngsters the valuable squad experience - and hopefully some success to go with all their hard work. At the moment, with one or two exceptions, if Rashford, Borthwick-Jackson and Foshu Mensah are representative of the talent on offer I would be happy to have the U21's as our first team next season.
Every silver lining has a ****ing cloud. We are in the semi of the FA cup with a decent chance of winning the trophy. The cloud : LVG may stay for another ****ing year on the back of this. For a club like United the decision to sack a manager should be based on the style of football being played and the excitement provided not a cup. Nobody wants the boring sterile possession football he serves so whether we win the semi or even the final, it is still good bye to LVG.
Ah, the revenue and kudos cup, the one everyone covets. Can't wait to join multiple champions Arsenal as esteemed winners of this highly prestigious trophy.
I'd love us to win the FA Cup. I'd definitely take it over 4th. CL helps with player recruitment but we won't be winning the thing any time soon and a decent manager doesn't necessarily need CL to establish a title challenging squad. A cup final would be fantastic. As long as we won it. I suspect we'll bend over for Everton.
