Sad but true. The FA Cup saturday afternoon used to be a massive date in the sports calendar. Its just another day for me now, unless we're in it, every 20-30 years or so.
Always hated managers fielding weakened teams for the FA Cup,including Sam. This year, won't be moaning at all. May even do us a favour with a star performance fromthe untried and untested. If nothing else, looking forward to a sublime performance from Pickford making him the obvious no. 1 for league games as well.
It certainly was. What with the It`s a Knockout and wotnot it was virtually a full day event. Loads of anticipation. So much money in the league now it`s almost got to the stage of being a nuisance. A real shame imo.
It provided me with the most memorable day in my life in 1973. How sad but true that it is now a second rate competition, its not just Murdochs fault though, the FA in all its wisdom must take some responsibility for its demise, having both semis played in London at Wembley for instance has not helped broaden its appeal up North.
