You could go have a look in Google. Its not 100% clear, either the clubs were given 200,000 a year for three years by the Premier League, or out of the money already paid to each club by the Premier League all the clubs agreed to set aside 200,000 for the ASI.
Understandable. I've never been a member, until tonight, but I thought it might give another opportunity to express my view It may not be in which case I'll have only wasted £8
There was no extra money given specifically for the ASI. It's an agreement on the clubs budgets. The club received their payment from the Premer League. An agreement was made between clubs that each would set aside £200k pa for three years from their budgets to use for encouraging away support. That can be by helping fans coming here, or us travelling.
It was me that posted the first full (ish) explanation of how the arrangement was made and I got that from a friend, an official at another club, who made it clear to me he was not involved in the process but thought it accurate - I made it clear that neither him or me where claiming it as fact, just a version we both thought to be correct. So I am surprised that I have not seen any official explanation published, but see posters, who knew nowt, now posting an explanation as fact.
Yours was one of a number of explanations on here that suggested the same thing, PLTs was another. I asked elsewhere and checked on a variety of official sites to check, and what I've put is pretty much how it works. I tend to check things myself before I claim anything as definitive, but if it turns out I 'm wrong, I'll hold my hands up.
It is possible that there is no factual information available from outside of the PL and the clubs. The ASI has been spent in a wide variety of ways. Free travel Reduced away ticketing Information technology Improvements to stadia Food Hats, scarves and shirts. Staff employment
It's obviously unclear at the moment precisely what the Premier League consider acceptable uses of the fund, something that will hopefully be clarified shortly. What isn't unclear, is that the fund was set up with a single purpose and that was to increase travelling support in the Premier League. Almost all clubs have used this money to reduce ticket or travel costs, which are obviously what the fund was created for and both are quite clearly likely to increase the travelling support. The use of this money to reconfigure away ends in grounds, or to employ staff, or improve IT are hardly likely to have any effect on travelling support and I'd suggest that proving otherwise will be problematic(a lot will depend on how vigorously the Premier League want to enforce it's use). What's abundantly clear, is that doing **** all is not one of the options and that's where we are currently and we're the only club to be in that position.
I would guess the club could cite the reviews on TripAdvisor amongst other things, that the changes are liable to increase the possibility of fans travelling here. Some of the stuff I read suggests that they didn't want it to be just reduced ticket or travel costs, but were looking to encourage broader initiatives.
I do not disagree, but simply pointing out that what I posted is all the PL have said and so at the moment these are the only facts available on how the money has been spent. Hopefully soon someone somewhere will get an answer.
It obviously should be spent on assistng City fans travelling away - however it will not be hard for the club to show how they've spent $200K on ASI - however tenuous the link to increasing away support has been - and as a result there'll be no ramifications...
I was trying to learn more about ASI and found this, below. If it's been posed before, mods can delete it. It's too long to post here so I've just given the link. http://www.fsf.org.uk/latest-news/view/away-supporters-initiative-201415
Have you looked at Trip Advisor? I don't get what James was talking about, they're nearly all comments from City and Hull FC fans.
Yes I don't get this trip advisor bullshit, it's clearly off the back of that silly article in the sun, which is highly embarrasing. It's not as if people are going to decide whether or not to follow their club by trip advisor ratings. Ffs.
Can everyone please follow the diktat of the self-appointed editor and ensure your posts are relevant to the thread they are on - all of this has been discussed endlessly, so perhaps a mod will move these ASI discussions to the ASI thread(s).
I've not looked on TripAdvisor. I think most of the social media generated stuff is bollocks, so wouldn't base anything much on it anyway. It's more the point that just the PL seems to want something more than just reduced travel. The way I read it, they were looking for broader initiatives. The club may not even suggest the stand move, it's just me suggesting what I've read, suggests they could, and it could possibly be better received than just a cheaper ticket scheme.
