F1's 13th Team?

Lola has called on the FIA to reopen the 13th team slot on the grid. The 13th team has been elusive with failed attempts by USF1, Stefan GP and Prodrive So I ask you fellow forumers...

1) would you like to see a 13th team
2) Do you think a 13th team will be able to match or better what Virgin/Lotus/HRT are doing?
3) Who do you think will win/deserve the slot?

My personal opinion is F1 will be all the richer to have another team and we get more action and more talent to observe. Also its a symbol of how healthy the sport is. The 3 car idea from Ferrari is stupid because you will just end up seeing a dominant car taking all 3 steps of the podium and will be a complete turn off to rival teams, supporters and sponsors and all the like.
 
Yes, I'd like to see the full compliment of 26 cars on the grid. This was the plan when F1 went through its last big shake up, but unfortunately Bernie didn't do his homework properly on a couple of potential entries, leaving us a team short.

I'd certainly welcome a 13th team. No question.
 
The more teams the better, so long as the grids can accomodate them!

Any new team has to prove they have the money available, and the technical experience to be able to produce a car. If the new team was told now (ahead of 2013/2014 entry) they'd have enough time to produce a car, hopefully compensating for any insufficiencies in technical backgrounds, and no team will be accepted with less money than HRT this year. Therefore, with enough notice, I think a new team could be at least as competitive as Virgin/HRT and Lotus were in 2010.

Whilst the difference in speed might be more noticeable if only 1 new team was accepted, I don't think it'd be any different to when Minardi were adrift at the back.
 
Lola have been in before on many occasions supplying chassis, but never hang around for long.

Is hard to see where the next team will come from unless a car manufacturer fancies having a go with the new rules.
 
I would like to see a 13th team come in. Ideally it would be a manufacturer but if one were to come in then they would more likely buy into an existing team instead of starting scratch. It would also probably be best fom the 13th team to start in 2014 when all the new regs come into play.
 
Hi, new poster and a new F1 fan really.

From my point, an extra team would be great for F1. As a casual fan, I think that, even if they are adrift and only near the Lotus/HRT/Virgin teams, it's always good to have a bit of competition all the way down the field. And we may get to see some new, talented drivers through as well, which would be awesome!

Welcome to the forum TractorBoy. I completely agree with what you've said here; and actually, I think the casual fan's point of view is much more relevant than the hardened regular, since it is far more likely to be more objective.

To answer your questions, yes I would like to see the right team being added to the grid.
No they wouldn't do any better than Virgin/HRT
I don't know any of the teams well enough to say if they deserve it or not.

The problem is that it's a very steep learning curve and noone is going to come into F1 and become a decent team straight away. There will always be a period of approx 5 years before they are anywhere near the mid field/front. Now the problem with that is money, sponsers will start to get a bit annoyed being at the back all the time.

I think a more likely way into F1 is to buy one of the smaller teams, it would make more sense for someone like VW to do this.

Not so long ago they were warned the best driver of all time was coming up and they had better get out of the way ( an F1 licence might be at stake).
 
I have no objection to someone such as VW becoming the 13th team, because they have the finances to fund car development etc. but i don't want another slow, hopeless privateer team, a la HRT.
 
If they are serious and comitted and looking to further themselves in the sport with the finances to make thier aims realistic
