You can bet they will be next.. Isn't it Crystal Palace who have those cheerleaders too? I expect them to go as well...
I don't Sb. I see women doing a job they like. It is wrong to pick on them. It's is their choice and they should be allowed to decide, not someone else. It is their human right to decide. So many other things are wrong but no one cares. Take sky sports news today, is anyone trying to tell me that the girl presenters are all ugly and they cover themselves up? Hello smell the coffee they are coached and designed to look pretty for the cameras so people watch. Why do you think most get kicked off these programs when they hit a certain age. wasn't there a case on that Strictly program where a woman complained she lost her job because she looked old. The actress Michelle Phfiffer said something the same that since getting a bit older she doesn't get the parts as they want younger girls with bigger boobs. Bloody hell the whole of society is rife with it but the PC brigade only complain when it suits them.
It needs to be implemented first then we can call for a second vote. You wait Stroller will be demanding a second vote before the result of the first.
I have to say that when I read the initial title, I thought Ollie had done a deal to get the grid girls at QPR to distract the opposition.
Who is 'picking on' women doing a job? But there are people criticising companies using women purely as decoration. Don't forget it is the companies in question (e.g. Darts & F1) who have made a commercial decision to stop using these women because they believe it is not good for their businesses - it's really nothing to do with the nanny state. You clearly see the inequalities that women experience, and yes it permeates throughout society, and yes lots of people (especially women) are fighting in all areas, all the time to try and eradicate the casual and explicit sexism they experience on a daily basis. But do you really watch Sky Sports for a glimpse of the women presenters cleavage, or tune into F1 to be titillated by the women on the grid?
These organisations have had pressure put on them and have taken the easy option. Here is a newspaper article: The choice comes just four days after the Professional Darts Corporation revealed it had axed “walk-on girls” after a request from TV bosses. But that decision was panned by the PDC’s chairman Barry Hearn. “It's out of my control,” Hearn said. “We're living in changing times - the PC brigade, the liberal brigade are out in strength and it's causing changes in sport everywhere we look and it's probably going to get worse.” That is a quote from the organizer as my point states, they had pressure put on them. And This is from another article The Professional Darts Corporation last week decided to end the long-established practice of women escorting male players to the stage. Their decision was blasted by the girls who have lost their jobs as Daniella Allfree and Charlotte Wood claimed the was no safer occupation for a woman. What will be banned next Ladies day at Ascot because it's sexist? Baywatch because we mustn't see women in a swimsuit? We could go on all night, but you get my point.
Fair play to a feminist on Sky News who was discussing this story. "It's contemporary feminism that is going in the wrong directions in many ways on working-class women's jobs because people don't like them. The women working in these industries are up in arms because they have just been sacked and there are people celebrating... women in the name of feminism." Spot on
Absolutely. And it should be noted that it is not just the girls losing their jobs, there is an entourage attached to all this including make-up girls, wardrobe staff etc who are all part of the travelling circus. I often get jobs taking such staff to events, it's amazing the number of people who's livelihoods are dependant on just one small part of what may be a huge event. One of the ladies told me she works on corporate events, sports events and film shoots, her make-up equipment was similar in size to two large suitcases. The next target for these zealots is almost certainly going to be the music video industry, again, I've had jobs taking staff to these shoots as well and there are a massive number of people involved in the productions. The bottom line is the girls actually enjoy the work and earn good money and often travel to places they'd never have had the chance to see, as do many of the staff involved behind the scenes. But hey-ho, welcome to 21st century snowflakeism...
I agree re the PC freaks as I have maintained the society and what culture is left has long gone. The blame has to fall on the UK media output. The dream of those people who want a modelling career ie become a model is their choice fair enough but it has a life span. The quest and dreams of becoming famous for nothing is about them ... role models are a later challenge that often blows up in their face. It’s not about to be undone and all is left is to challenge any political correctness in U.K. society imo after all we have people masturbating in public office apparently on the tax payer! It’s still very much a man’s world unfortunately so balance has to be addressed imo. It only proves however exactly how standards are divided
IMO it's a really difficult one, mainly, as you say because of my age and gender I suppose. I can see that women shouldn't be objectified, but on the other hand, many women happily work as hostesses, boxing ring girls (this will be next to go) etc. You can't tell me that any of those women working as hostesses at the President's Club didn't know what to expect. This doesn't excuse or condone them being groped (assaulted) against their will mind. I do worry about the way things are going though. Total control of thought and action is a dangerous path IMO. I also suspect that in 100 years' time there will be little or no actual physical contact between men and women. Sexbots will take over to guarantee that there's no chance of inappropriate behaviour. Men are becoming scared to compliment a woman or ask her out these days. It's a difficult time to be a man, although women have been battling for equality for far too long.
If you put an attractive girl on the front of a woman’s magazine it sells, to women. No doubt some feminists will say this needs to stop.
Okay ....wait a while to do this. Imho this "feminism" is going the wrong way and perhaps deliberately. Throughout my working life I was not promoted, I was not considered, I was not paid as much as my male counterparts. I was considered the person who held the team together, not the person who lead. When I went for promotions I was told, I didn't have the leadership qualities, even though I had testimonials from my three previous bosses to the contrary. At the interview I was told if I wanted promotion I had to leave and go to different university to get the position I wanted... At age of about 55 and with a family, to start all over again they knew I couldn't do that. Gotcha!! I was not alone....In my part of academic life, at that time we had only 2 senior women scientists (neither had families) and nearly 50 men...This sort of thing is what we need to fight..not the ring girls, or the models. (The Presidents club do is very different...yes the girls knew they were going to be hostesses they didn't know they were going to be groped, abused and insulted) Women should be allowed to chose their own course, and be allowed to peruse it to the best of their ability, and be paid equally for equal work.. I am worried that the do-holders will be bleating " we have got rid of all those jobs that are objectifying women....we have sorted it" ....No you haven't! You have just made a big show of picking off an easy target that didn't want to be picked off. Equality is what women want and need...my final point is that everyone needs to find their own course. To some it is to work, lead and strive. To others it is to nurture. We are all different...My idea of feminism is equality for equal work...and respect for what we all do...no one is just a housewife, or just a carer or just a nurse....like no one is just an engineer, or just a doctor, or just a stay at home father. There is only one way of life....and that's your own. Having said all that, never understood why we couldn't have a couple of cute grid-boys too
I guess pretty girls sell/promote stuff better because they are just nicer to look at. Surely that is nature really and why Suzanne Boyle and Anne Widdecombe don't tend to trouble the cover of Vogue, yet we still respect their other abilities. I think SB is spot on though, a time will soon come when we will look back at the practice of parading scantily clad promo girls with a sense of that was a time long gone by. Whether that view is met with the same shock and revulsion one would feel if you were to You Tube an old episode of Love Thy Neighbour, I am not sure.
Well said dear, very good. Now if you don’t mind us 50 something year old chaps (and perhaps some of those 40 something whippersnappers) will get back to our wild over generalisations about what 20 something year old women really want, and mixing up equality, sexism, feminism and ‘PC gone mad’ because, after all, we know best. And it helps us bluster our way through the fear of change. Equality of opportunity and equality of treatment, not only for women, are so mind numblingly obviously good for all, economically, socially and personally, that it’s a major perverse achievement for so many to be resisting it still. Think of all the talent that has been and is wasted. It’s only threatening to people who have achieved positions and status because of the lack of competition and the unlevel playing field. Oh dear, that’s quite a lot of us........and we happen to be in a position to hold it back.
Spot on Beth and thank you for giving us your thoughts on this matter. The big issue as you pointed out is about equality and women should have that right. Do people care about the popular girls nights out with good looking muscular men dancing? In this world, if you are good at drawing and you want to be an artist you try and be one. Same as Dancers. If you are a pretty person and you want to use your looks you do so. as the song says "use what you got". I disagree with the statement about "Love Thy Neighbour" and "Minstrals" because I think you are talking about 2 different things. When TV did that 70's night I watched an episode of Love Thy Neighbour and it was really cringe-worthy and dated. However, if you are telling me that there are not people like Eddie Booth anymore I would disagree. Recent news tells us that racism and far-right groups have risen. As I said, for me two different arguments. There has always been a want for good-looking people throughout history and it will continue. It is in our human nature. We all look at a nice looking person and that will continue. This, as Beth has said goes deeper than a couple of pretty girls standing by a car or dartboard. PS I didn't even know they had girls at F1 until it was highlighted. That's another reason why I cannot understand the fuss made.
It will be the speedway girls next. I admit that I don't follow the sport, but for some unexplained reason, I seem to have noticed that they are there. please log in to view this image
...and the Tour de France may change fom this: please log in to view this image To this: please log in to view this image ... the "boys" looks quite shy in their new role
You'd have to be blind to miss them as they parade in front of their designated rider before each race. I'll be surprised if they're dropped...
I think many women use the "because I'm a woman" excuse when they don't get a promotion when it might be because they aren't good enough.
