I think De La Rosa is now doing commentary work in Spain, and I've seen him quoted on another forum as saying that keeping off the kerbs is quite a common safety measure for gearbox issues, so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to suggest that it could help battery problems. I think it's pretty clear in this case that the message was about reliability rather than driver performance.
