Looking at the comments section on the BBC of the news. Someone said they thought Vettels only real chance next year was to drive the safety car. That way he gets to drive a Mercedes , and nobody can over take him
I was surprised how quickly Sergio was dropped by Mclaren. They must have seen something in his performance that didn't excite them. He has competed against Stroll, I can't look only at the performance this year but he hasn't put clear air between himself and Stroll. Who would you drop from Williams? I don't see an obvious choice. That said, the voiced change to F1 grid determination next year might trigger a reassessment of drivers and their strengths next year.
Nice step up for Vettel, oddly. Hope he can find his mojo again. We need guys like him at their best.
F1 has often been referred too as a circus. A circus needs a clown so Yes, lets hope he performs appropriately. On a human level, I do hope he sorts his head out.
We all enjoyed the entertainment Vettel brought, gave something to talk about in an era with a dominant player. I think Vettel kept the fans entertained when life might have been incredibly boring. Credit to him. He might even have been paid a back hander by Bernie for raising the fan base. That was a bit harsh.
Eddie Jordan thinks Mercedes are about to sell their F1 team https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...hemicals-giant-set-70-cent-share-F1-team.html
Interesting and sort of makes sense. Toto and Lewis seem reluctant to commit so maybe it's Merc who won't commit?
Must admit I tend to take a lot of what EJ says with a pinch of salt , if this is true however . Merc / Lewis WCC / WDC 2020 . Toto takes a backish seat for new team and INNEOS F1 / LEWIS. WCC / WDC 2021 , and Toto and Lewis head off to pursue other careers ?
Makes complete sense really and also explains the Aston Martin shareholding for Wolff, the bizarre willingness to let Aston Martin copy last years winning car (and thus begin to acquaint themselves with the Merc way of thinking) and of course signing a 4xWDC in Seb Vettel. Not being funny, Sebastian would not continue in a team that would meander around in P6- he has obviously seen something or told something that makes a lot of sense to him. EJ spouts a lot of stuff but remember when we all laughed when he said McLaren had basically decided to go back to Mercedes PU? He was miles ahead of the journalists on that. Mercedes works status will probably quietly disappear undefeated- what a mythical status they will have for whenever they do return in their own name. There are wheels in motion folks.
In hindsight, I think Fred deserved a third world title. I think he he have come out on the right side of 2010 and 2012, him having 4 x WDC and Seb having 2 would be a more accurate reflection of their overall abilities. Then again, Hamilton was mega unlucky at times too in a fast but up and down McLaren. They were some good years looking back.
In clearly the biggest story in world news today, Honda is to withdraw from F1 at the end of next season. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/54383259 Real shame for Honda, who after so many years of being atrocious had finally built a decent engine and a real chance of a title tilt in 2022. Red Bull are left crawling back to Renault, cap in hand. The current engine rules can be safely declared a complete failure now. They must be simplified as quickly as possible, they've driven up costs, spread out the field and failed to attract new manufacturer (probably because of how easy it is to be embarrassingly far behind as per Honda and Ferrari).
Sign of the times indeed . If I was Renault , I would tell RBR to do one . I’m not though and I expect them to do a deal . Cyril must be pissing himself laughing and I don’t blame him for one second
What an odd decision, Honda and Red Bull seemed right at the precipice of success. Huge blow for Red Bull and F1, have to wonder where both go from here.
I'd heard rumours about Renault possibly pulling out, but nothing about Honda. This is out of the blue for me and a really bad sign for F1 The FIA must act now to allow the teams to equalise the engines, because if Renault do pull out, surely it means the end of F1. Thought about this a little more. I wonder if Red Bull will try to buy the rights for the Honda engine and devolop it themselves? Also I think Honda will show up in Formula E soon, as it seems the place most manufacturers are going.
