Forgot to say, those with Netflix access the 2018 F1 Documentary 'Drive to Survive' was released today!!! Just started watching it
Watched the first 3 episodes. Interesting, very interesting. I didn't remember 2018 season being so dramatic!!!! It's good to see drivers and team managers in a sort of non interview situation. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I wish they would make a program more focussing on the mechanics and engineers.
Looks like the point for fastest lap will start in Australia 2019!!!!! So just over a week away!!!!!!!!
Just read this naff twist: 'The driver with the fastest lap will only be awarded the point if he also finishes in the top 10.' That seems stupid, come on fia give the back markers something to aim for until the cost caps come in and start to work.
That's crap ! FFS . Give some others a go at a point . And I stand by my comment about a point for pole .
Watching 'Drive to Survive' nice editing where Horner was slagging Renault off again and going with Honda, then Renault saying increased budget for 2019, then Renault signing Riccy out from under Red Bulls nose Was almost like Karma I do hope Renault give Riccy a great car, mind you going from an Aston as a company car to a Renault!!!!
It's to stop the farce they had in FE a couple of seasons ago. Fastest lap carried enough points to decide the title. Both title contenders got taken out in the first corner, limped back to the pits, then spent the rest of the race going for fastest lap. Dozens of laps down, frequently pitting or crawling around the track. Their teammates got pulled into the battle, blocking the rival and trying to open up gaps on track for their team-mate. Probably the most tactical race you'll see, but utterly ridiculous.
Like the idea - be actually think the 'top 10' rule is very sensible. Will force teams not to just go for the single point, which could cause a number of perverse scenarios that might disrupt the race proper.
Any position should be eligible for the point... Use existing rules to prevent a scenario like the above. F1 always finds a way to overcomplicate the simplest of concepts.
Drivers salaries From Planet F1 : https://www.planetf1.com/news/hamilton-and-vettel-top-driver-salaries/ Reported salaries in full Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) £40,000,000 Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) £30,500,000 Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) £26,500,000 Max Verstappen (Red Bull) £10,000,000 Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) £6,500,000 Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo) £3,500,000 Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) £3,500,000 Carlos Sainz (McLaren) £3,000,000 Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) £2,500,000 Sergio Perez (Racing Point) £2,500,000 Romain Grosjean (Haas) £1,400,000 Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) £1,000,000 Lance Stroll (Racing Point) £900,000 Kevin Magnussen (Haas) £900,000 Robert Kubica (Williams) £430,000 Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) £230,000 Lando Norris (McLaren) £200,000 Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) £175,000 George Russell (Williams) £140,000 Alexander Albon (Toro Rosso) £130,000 No wonder Riccy went to Renault!!!!! It was reported earlier that his offer to stay at Red Bull was less than Max is on!!! So about £9mil to £26.5mil, OK so Renault may not be best option for winning championship but for an extra £17.5 million a year its worth a shot
McLaren have saved some money from bidding Alonso farewell for how haven’t they? I hope they’ve spent it on the car!! I know the Honda money covered him from 2015 but last year must have been stumped up by the board?
