Personally I just don’t see Bottas having enough to threaten a WDC. He excels under braking and on the less twisty tracks- Russia and Austria being pretty good examples. Once you go elsewhere Hamilton has just eaten him alive. They are miles apart and always will be unfortunately. Surely if he doesn’t nail it this year he then has the problem of Esteban Ocon looking for a drive, and of course Merc looking for their Hamilton successor. He’s a very solid yardstick but unspectacular. However, that is pretty good compared to some of the ****e that pay their way into F1 at the moment. He will do a solid job wherever he goes- he might be the sort of guy McLaren or a Williams could do with as they plan their development journey back towards the top. Someone who is good but won’t be ringing performance out of the car, so provides good data. I also see him being an option at Renault if things don’t work out for Hulk (or indeed Danny Ricc)
I like him , but sometimes that’s not enough . I have said before that if he doesn’t perform , I can see Ocon replacing him before the season is out . If that were to happen , I doubt he’s got the self belief to come back . Hope I’m wrong , but we will see .

I think this is his last Season at Mercedes, I think he realises that. His objective will be to put in a performance that sees him staying in F1. He was very unlucky last year with the first half of the season. It will be interesting to see which drivers cope best with the design changes this season.
Not wise, last time I tried to win a world championship I overslept on the 1st day of the season. Never got the hang of it.
Uh-Oh . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/46924987 The man appointed as the new boss of Renault's Formula 1 programme has left the French car company before even taking up his new position. Thierry Koskas was named president of Renault Sport in November, and attended the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on a fact-finding mission. But 18 days after he was due to start work, Renault announced Kostas' departure from the entire group. Jerome Stoll, who had been due to retire, will continue as president. A spokesperson for Renault Sport shed no further light on the situation, but emphasised the move effectively meant the F1 team continued as before under Stoll and managing director, and de facto team boss, Cyril Abiteboul. The Renault-Nissan Group, the third largest car company in the world, is in some degree of turmoil following the charging of former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn with financial crimes in Japan. Ghosn, who was instrumental in Renault's return to F1 as a constructor in 2016, is in detention on charges of aggravated breach of trust, understating his income and the separate charge of under-reporting his pay. Ghosn denies all wrong doing. What I don't get is . I thought Ghosn was AGAINST Renault returning as a Manufacturer .
It is a little odd for sure. Having said that, given the little time in the role, it shouldn’t be a huge de-stabiliser? The only concern is the non-technical point - does the Ghosn issue cause Renault financial issues that restrict its F1 operation? I guess time will tell.
Was Whitmarsh so bad given everything that has happened to McLaren since, that wasn't his making. They imploded.
https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/11601258/f1-testing-live-coverage-on-sky-f1 SkyF1 to broadcast afternoon sessions of testing plus a 1 hour discussion show to review each day (presumably Ted will run that bit). It’s about time they did something with testing. Here’s hoping Mercedes are all over the place We could do with a mixed up grid!
