Believe it when I see it . I have seen somewhere , that the engineers say they will get the vast majority of downforce back .
I've got a horrible feeling that all these new front wing changes will do is hurt the high rake cars more than low rake. Therefore simply hurting Mercedes nearest rivals.
It's more about lessening the wash for the car behind so they can follow closer than lessening the effect of the wing, personally I think a return to ground-effect would be better.
I get you, Bando. But overtaking is really slightly less than half of the equation. The 'bigger picture' is f1's total credibility at the pinnacle of motorsport; and whilst it certainly includes overtaking, total credibility very much relies upon ultimate speed (around all manner of non-0val tracks). And it should be no surprise this is directly connected to the aesthetics we instinctively associate with speed and cornering ability. Only recently, GP2 was getting a bit close for comfort, and that was doing nothing to enhance F1's image.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-46598155 Hamilton once again proving that he needn’t open his dumb mouth. The guy is an AMAZING F1 driver but he really has become a Los Angeles ****. Bore that accent off as well mate.
yeah, he's raced in India and driven passed the favellas of Sao Paulo numerous times, and calls Stevenage a slum. His poverty painting really annoys me, he karted all around England, not something poor people do, Brundle and Blundell certainly couldn't afford it.
With Verstappen around these days Hamilton's really had to up his game for foot in mouth incidents. Too many people were warming to him over Max.
Critical year. I suspect Vettel may not have the total support he has enjoyed if he doesn't deliver, seems Binotto was the intended appointment when Marchionne was still around, who was also the one wanting LeClerc. Twice the team seemed to implode over the last 2 years, will be interesting to watch and see if the dynamic changes.
We are all expecting next year to be a real scrap, even Renault are claiming they have found a lot of kilowatts, and think that they will be in the ballpark. I really hope this is the case and RBR lag behind. Our expectations are high, wondering if by China we are staring at a damp squid though, lets hope not. And, whatever happened to horse power being replaced by kilowatts. I know the reasons but it ain't right.
In 2017 I wrote the season off early praying for 2018 , that was a crock for the most part IMHO . Not expecting anything from this season , but hoping .
There is a very different vibe coming from Renault this year in my opinion. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but there just feels far more certainty in Cyril’s words than the empty promises that (perhaps) pandered to red bull. I am convinced that they hid things from Red Bull once the decision was made (and let’s be real here- it was made the moment Toro Rosso had a Honda in the back of it). Spec C was noted as a small step forward, especially race pace, when Red Bull took it on. The real optimism for me is that Spec C achieved that despite the architecture limiting development. If the new architecture and design enables Renault to optimise their gains, things should begin to get closer, which is what we need. Wouldn’t it be spectacular if Renault and McLaren got their act together and trounced Red Bull? I actually think Honda (who I really like) will eventually produce some superb benefits as a PU supplier but my word will Red Bull test their patience! If for nothing else, just to shut Verstappen up from harping on.
I’m quite intrigued by McLaren this year. It’s interesting that Pat Fry (supported alongside by Andrea Stella) is running the show the season before they get the first car with James Key’s input (he joins at some point this season so he will lead next years design). Pat Fry has been part of the design team of fast cars before- what happens if he nails this latest regulation change? McLaren I think are on the right track back. Fry’s experience and a smaller design team should avoid them having the same issues that they faced previously. The major boost is James Key- the fact RBR/Toro Rosso have been such a nightmare about it shows how annoyed they are to lose him. It may take time, but McLaren should be a force again.
