F2 is going to be odd next year, with the top 3 getting promoted and nobody there looking like a generational talent. Nyck De Vries as favourite is hardly inspiring? Sette Camara? Mazepin? Matsushita? Mick seems to have taken one season to adjust, then greatly improved in his second season at every level he's raced at. Use 2019 to get used to F2, dominate it in 2020 then move into F1 when the regs change?
I think most genuine talents in F1 dominated F2/GP2 in their first season. Those who went on to win at a later date generally didn't have shining F1 careers, that's the worry. I think Camara is the favourite next season, moving to DAMS as well which will help.
Whilst the superstars usually dominated (or skipped it and went straight from F3), i wouldn't say every driver who took two seasons was awful in F1. That list would include the likes of Perez, Gasly, Grosjean, Buemi, Bianchi, Glock etc. They did all do at least respectably in the first season though. The "false" GP2 graduates are usually the types who finish basically last in their first season, and eventually do well in their 3rd, 4th or 5th thanks to experience. That's why you find Palmer, Chilton, Maldonado and Ericcson.
That's probably fair. If you don't make an impression in your first season then sadly you've reached the limits of your ability
I hope you are all sitting down ? Lance Stroll will be driving for Force India in 2019 ( or whatever they are called ).
Looking forward to next season, LeClerc in a Ferrari, the boy and his tantrums getting hemmed in I hope, Bottas proclaiming he will drive every race as if it is his last (hope it makes a difference), Hamilton with some real challengers, new aero. Nothing to take for granted. Also hope Ricciardo and Renault surprise.
Now, Hamilton with an added distraction that he doesn't need next year...Superbike testing. While he should be given some space to do his own thing, Superbike testing could be a problem. It is soooo easy to get injured. I know he needs new challenges, but that is one he could do without. Yes, he likes bikes, but go take a evening ride around the block, not testing how fast he could go. But, I guess he knows what's best. I hope Mercedes knows better..lol. Well, they have a few good back up drivers. So, Ocon and others better keep sharp!
And Daddy Stroll says he is hoping for his team to challenge for 3rd place.... Well, he must really have a lot of faith in Sergio Perez.
I think Stroll will end up a solid midfield driver, not seen anything to say he could be special, but he's done enough to show he can actually do the job.
Nicholas Lafita Williams reserve driver for next year . Has no super licence , so can’t drive the actual car . What could be the connection I wonder $$$$$$$$$ Sorry . He can drive the car , just not race it .
Test driver for Renault 2016, Force India 2018, now Williams, how much you reckon that's cost so far? Maybe his dad should take a leaf out of papa Stroll's book and buy a team.
His Dad bought 10% stake in Mclaren , just £200 million . I bet you knew that , but wtf ! I can see Williams being bought out .
Racing austerity is over, we can look forward to a 20% increase in racing quality in 2019, https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/46569015
