I agree to a point . Williams seem adamant that they will be ok . As I said , I wonder if they are taking big money from Williams techno section . If that is the case , how long can you rob Peter to pay Paul ?
Or they've pulled a blinder with a new title sponsor for 2019... or need top drivers to get said sponsor
well, they are still owed £15m for Stroll's 2019 drive, so that's some of next years budget, plus however much they can get for the 2 seats available. As to robbing Peter to Pay Paul, Peter would've have any money without Paul.
Rich Energy likely to become HAAS title sponsor in 2019 according to Autosprt , they have passed due diligence .
Similar talent level to someone like Sato. He'll be fine. Very much looking forwards to seeing Fernando out there though.
Anyone seen this? Autosport claiming Kubica has the offer of a Williams seat or a Ferrari reserve seat. Kubica has 2019 race seat offer from Williams - Autosport https://apple.news/AqksmaudVSv6zRc4ferFlyg
I wonder if his decision is related to his insurance payout? It would be good to see him drive again but in a non competitive car I'm not sure it would be worth it for him.
Kubica taking the Williams seat is expensive and risky. The story of him returning to the grid no doubt plays a part in his financial backing, and to a certain degree the reputation he has in F1 is based on his previous spell in F1. The 2019 Williams could be a dog of our car, and he'd have a highly rated team-mate in Russell. If he doesn't perform well against Russell in 2019, he could find himself out of F1, out of funding and with a handful of P10 finishes to show for it. Future prospects after that don't look too strong. Even if he does well, we've seen plenty of drivers perform relatively strongly at the back of the grid and still fade out of the sport. Glock and Kovalainen, even Wehrlein spring to mind. And like you say, that insurance payout makes the race seat a very expensive proposition. In contrast - Ferrari could set him up for the rest of his career. A Ferrari development driver role has got Kvyat and Giovinazzi better F1 seats than a Williams. It's not as glamorous for 2019, but it opens doors. At 33 years old he can afford to bide his time another season - and who knows what could happen? Outperform Giovinazzi in the simulator, some good FP1 showings and perhaps when Vettel storms out of Ferrari then Kubica finds himself in a Ferrari race seat for 2020. And if that doesn't work out, Ferrari generally look after their own. Fisichella drove a handful of races for them in 09 and has driven Ferrari's for ten seasons since in other series, Mika Salo's Ferrari links got him seats after F1. It's very easy to sit here and say "If he thinks he's good enough to have been a WDC, he's got to take the race seat and show it", but like you've said, the 2019 Williams might not be the best platform to show anything. Can anyone really say how Sirotkin stacks up for example?
Sounds like Williams really aren't happy about the Autosport article. There's been a couple of reports of Williams PR people confronting an Autosport journo (possibly Adam Cooper?) in the paddock, and the headline has been changed since. He witnessed the epic scene of the genre. The author of the News with statements #Kubica(confirming the offer of Williams) was taken to the angle in the Media Center and improbably obsztorcowanyed by the press office Williams. Hahaha I asked in Williams. Officially: "Nothing has changed. There is still a short list of candidates. The same as earlier "unofficially:" article very wkurzył bosses. It's at the top
Alonso will run the Indy500 in a Mclaren: https://www.mclaren.com/formula1/team/mclaren-returns-indy-500-fernando-alonso-2019/
On the bbc today’s F1 rumours bit , there is an article saying Kubica nearly done deal to race for Williams , after securing sufficient funding . If He gets the drive ( I think it should go to Ocon ) , Claire better not say it was not based on money
The mclaren Indy page has just posted a picture of Bob Fearnly saying 'team photo'. He should be in the mclaren F1 team.
