Who knows, Mercedes might buy their way into getting Ocon and Russel into Williams. Good for the talent pool in F1 but sadly super unlikely.

I doubt Mercedes will pay out 20 million for Ocon when they have someone like Russel coming through, and for free.

Ocon would have been better than Bottas. Especially now Ferrari have LeClerc.

Hate to say it , but you are probably right . Next year will be Bottas last year with Merc. Ocon will take his place .

Bottas will resign for Williams and be WDC 2021 .

You heard it here first :)

Thought Marcus seat was relatively safe , no surprises now that Ferrari have their man in ?

They are now very very firmly the "ferrari B team"

Red bull 1 and red bull 2 (torro rosso) (honda power)
    Ferrari 1 and ferrari 2 (alpha/sauber)
Mercedes 1 and ? They don't seem to have pushed this quite enough

    then theres Ferrari clone Haas,

force india and williams mercedes customers but at arms length.

Like... what chance have Mclaren renault and Renault got?

of the 20 cars now you might say ferrari "control" 6 of them. Red bull control 4. Mercedes hold back 4 with inferior settings (its said)

I think Mercedes just might have to snaffle up one of their customer teams and turn it into a junior team now.

You would think it would be RPFI ?

Williams say financially they don't need it.

They may not Yet , we will see .

    It stinks imho .

tbh my opinion is current engine rules have price all others out of market.

formula e shows the future... simply put development of batteries.and electric motors is where car makers need to be not ultra complex hybrids.

the technology put into cars now is such that no new entrant like vw audi or whoever can realistically enter.

I am still shocked Renault are that bothered.

I think it may well get worse before it gets better. we could.end up with 2 engine makes. we barely have 4 as 2 are mid table at best.

For years the engines were either Ferrari or Ford. They do say all fashions go in cycles, it may well turn into Mercedes power vs Ferrari power. I can see Mercedes pulling out as a constructor but leaving Brakley involved with independent engines.

It's not any change in Sauber's position from this season. Ferrari have the right to nominate one driver there. Leclerc this season and Giovinazzi next season.

The Raikkonen deal is apparently totally independent of Ferrari, and is actually the one replaing Ericsson.

yeah, its not. it really has got to the point of just reveal it.

I refuse however to believe raikkonen deal is anything but what it is. I dunno why he wants to tool about at the back for 2 years more but rather than move to retriement he wants to so ok... but its clear hes a ferrari man in a ferrari car

Just going off what various journalists claimed to have discovered after the Kimi announcement (and before Ferrari said so). Unless there's a cover-up with false leaks, but i don't see the point.

The prestige and media attention from having a guy like Raikkonen onboard is pretty valuable to a team like Sauber, if they've decided they don't need the money anymore. I can see them taking him on of their own free will. McLaren attempted to do the same. Kimi, despite his demeanour, probably discovered he quite likes F1 during his first retirement.

B teams are bad for F1. They will wipe out the independents and probably harm any drivers chance who is not in an academy to get to F1.

It’s a sad state of affairs isn’t it?

Big and ballsy V10s and some creative designs seem a long, long time ago now.

It’s especially difficult times for Williams and McLaren (though McLaren binned a great works deal that would likely have proved fruitful if the engine regs remain stable)

It's not great for the long term future of the sport. When Merc and RBR walk, you're left with formula Ferrari.
