Is Alonso really worth the £30m+ they'd have to pay to buy him out of McLaren, plus his salary at Mercedes? He hasn't got that long left so can't see it being worth Mercedes money. They'd be better off investing in a younger driver as surely Lewis will be looking to go in a few years as well.
Oh no doubt he didn't mean this when he said he'd be there if needed in 2017. it's just funny to think about. It'll almost certainly be Wehrlein not Alonso , but wow for the best seat to become available now with everyone having already settled. It's one hell of a bombshell.
BE "**** Germany, I've got my own track in France, we'll do it there instead, and I'll waive the fees".
So though it's probably most likely Pascal who'll be stepping in at Merc, do we think there's a chance it could be Vettel? That would be a monsterous lineup. I'd love to see Ricciardo too, but boy would it be tasty to see Verstappen in there? (What's his current contract look like?) So. Are Merc going to play safe or play risky? Or could we see Hamilton move on and have a complete fresh lineup? Ouside bet, but after today, who knows!
Imho, Hamilton will stay for next year. However, if the cars fail to excite him, I can see him leaving F1 for good. Sometimes this season he has simply appeared bored, he has now finally won in Brazil & Equalled his hero's tally of wdc, what else is there left for him to achieve? . ,
I think Hamilton is hungry for more. He was complacent at the end of last year and the start of this season and he let his guard down. I think losing this might have reignited the fire. You could see it in the latter half of the season that he was ready to work for it again.
Easy to get out of his Williams contract. fairly experienced, managed by Toto Wolff. Would be exceptionally dull though. Doesn't have the potential of Pascal, so would be a pretty obvious #2.
French GP return confirmed. Looks like it's on the full Paul Ricard circuit that includes the old loop which F1 stopped using after Elio de Angelis accident.
I remember that track being really fast. Presumably they've added a bunch of stupid crap to slow it down.
Just one chicane on the Mistral Straight by the looks of it. And psychedelic blue and red lines everywhere! please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Yes, I believe it is very abrasive so will really scrub the tyres of someone who goes out wide. Unfortunately with F1 and its overtaking rules, it could punish the innocent......
Hasn't Paul Ricard got like 400+ combinations of track? I can see the whole field getting lost and no one finishing.
