People who don't know the answer As we all know anyway Bahrain has confirmed that the 2014 race will be a night race under lights. Given the time difference that'll probably mean the race will be on our screens around 5-6pm.
As opposed to Whitmarsh not beleiving the 'hype', it's more a case of Mercedes not giving McLaren as much information as they used to as it's the last year of the partnership. Sorry Forza, you really have got a bee in your bonnet about the whole engine situation.
Ferrari testing their V6 in a La Ferrari? Sounds like a turbo. And it sounds great!
Whitmarsh is just saying what anyone with sense has already figured out NO ONE knows if they have a competitive engine, the engie suppliers might think they have a competitive engine but until they actually compete against another engine they simply won't know, there are too many variables, power, weight, fuel consumption, reliability etc.
Each manufacturer probably has a rough idea if their engine is good, bad or average, but unless they have a spare $100m they can't know how it compares to the others What ever happened to PURE
It's about time Ferrari made use of their test track, I don't care whether it's illegal. Red Bull go all the way from Milton Keynes to Barcelona for a 'filming day', and they go to Idiada, a renowned testing circuit. Some other news from Onmicorse: Pirelli tyre test at Bahrain from 17-19th December, only Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes will be taking part - and using their 2013 cars: http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/32966/f1-test-pirelli-serve-lo-ok-fia-per-tre-vetture-in-bahrein
Surprising none of the others wanted to do it, or is money really that tight the costs of getting a test team over to Bahrain is just too prohibitive? IMO in-season testing should be allowed. It helps teams both at the top and the bottom of the grid. One test pre-summer break and a second test post-summer break parts of the season. The bigger teams can use their advanced simulators; CFD, windtunnels etc to guage how well their upgrades will work, whereas this level of sophistication is not available to the lower teams, who would learn more from testing than the bigger teams. No reason why a test could not be had at a European venue, or for a few days before/after a fly-away event in the sun where teams can test new parts without having to worry about tyre restrictions over a weekend. If pre-event, to stop teams getting a tyre advantage over those who didn't test, Pirelli could have a 'test' compound tyre which wouldn't be used during the actual race weekend.
I think Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes are the ones who would moan the most if their car wasn't used for a tyre test so Pirelli had no option but to use them all... Should have just made another young drivers test, 2013 cars on 2014 rubber. Win win all round
This is getting ridiculous now. If they're going to have a testing ban they should enforce it. I thought the ban was supposed to make things "fairer" but it seems it only applies to the smaller teams. Shame about Maldonado. I hoped Lotus would do the right thing and sign Hulkenberg, it's not like the team would go bust without Maldonado's money, they and every other team have managed without it for years.
Lotus tweeted this with the caption "You never forget your first time..." please log in to view this image Disappointed it's not Hulk, but really not surprised. Expecting Ijaz to never be heard of again now (in relation to Lotus anyway). Really disappointed that only three teams are being allowed testing, can't believe Mclaren at the very least haven't kicked up a stink about this.
Probably this more like + No way would Ferrari allow some guy to record this just to slap all over You tube if it was the real F1 engine.
Talk going about in Idiada that RBR are now blowing the monkey seat *Just when you thought it was safe*
