Grass Roots ‏@GrassRootsBlogg 3m Ferrari press conference in 30 mins, expect Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso to be announced as team mates in 2014 #F1 EDIT: No announcement yet, but Ferrari is trending on twitter lol
Felipe1Massa ‏@Felipe1Massa 12m From 2014 i will no longer be driving for Ferrari. I would like to thank the team for all the… http://instagram.com/p/eFyM4QHLf1/ Done Deal, Iceman is returning.
I feel sorry for Massa but the truth is he hasn't been fast enough; with that said, it would be nice to see him at a midfield team next year to give it one more go and see if he can retrieve the 2008 pace.
I knew it was coming but still it's a little sad after 8 years as a Ferrari driver. Only Schumacher has driven more races for Ferrari. Forza Felipe. Hope he stays in F1. His full message:
The mans been under-performing for 4 years and is only now getting the boot. I would argue that Ferrari have been very loyal. He inflicted being a number two on himself by falling so far behind Alonso every season. Ultimately it is sad though to have seen his fall from the heights of 08 to what will now probably be the death knell for his formula one career. I struggle to see where he could go now, especially with him apparently only wanting a competitive car. Taking the route of Fisichella and Kobayashi and angling for a Sports car drive with Ferrari would be my choice in his position.
This. It was evident from 2010 & 2011 that he was not the same driver post accident. Ferrari were either being very charitable towards Massa, or pandering to Alonso by keeping him on in 2012 and 2013. Would Massa take a drop to a mid-field or even back of the grid team just to stay in F1?
May be worth it. Coming out from under Alonso's shadow may rejuvinate him back to where he was in 06-08 when he looked like a decent driver. He just knows that everytime he does well, Ferrari or Alonso try to screw him over or make him feel bad about doing well. Must be hard for the guy.
Shame if he were to drop out of F1 altogether, the guy who "won" (in my eyes anyway, if it weren't for his engine blowing in Hungary) the 2008 world title is still in there somewhere, maybe a change of scenery would bring him back?
A Button all over again would be great to see. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like to see him win the WDC
Raikkonen is only on a one-year deal (albeit with an option) - so Ferrari are prepared to cut their losses if he doesn't work out again... or is there something else going on there, I wonder?
Come on, he did. It was the team that cost him, he did everything he needed to do that year. It proved that he's actually a damn good driver, and i think the way he handled losing the title to Hamilton endeared him to everyone. Good driver, good man.
Or both. Although Alonso is contracted for some time yet. As for Massa, my money would be on Sauber, although apparently Bianchi's been linked with that seat? Can someone confirm this?
