Is it my imagination or is the exhaust turbine set at a 60 degree angle pointing up? I seem to keep reading that Ferrari and Renault want the engine freeze removing but that the regs permit 8% of power unit components by weight to be frozen in development by 2015. So that leaves 92% by weight that can be changed!!!! That seems a massive amount. Then again I suppose the biggest weight is the block, which would need significant modification to get a split turbo. I love seeing decent images of the proper technical bits of the cars, always interesting.
I get the impression that the others are afraid of getting it wrong. Mercedes can evolve their engines but the others need to half start again. If they muck it up this time they've got a much smaller get out of jail free card next season. The freeze won't be going anywhere for a while so they've got one shot really to catch up.
It is astonishingly tight. The Ferrari looks like a tail-ender team had made that, though it's not clear how far the sidepods undercut the bodywork which is clearly flowing air through to the rear wing.
I checked out the championship standings earlier on the BBC website. In the constructors', Marussia and Caterham have been erased and only nine teams remain. Is this official and Jules' two points from Monaco are now null and void towards the final totals? I notice that he still figures in the WDC rankings.
I dont know, but to be fair if a team does go into administration then they should be docked points or excluded. good news for sauber
Yeah, I suppose but this will just make it even harder for them to get back into it. It was a bit of a shock to see that they had been erased from this year's standings.
The FIA still have them classified http://www.fia.com/championship/fia-formula-1-world-championship/2014/classifications
Even less chance of a last gasp Caterham revival. This will have cost them a few monies I imagine, [h=3]Ericsson terminates his contract[/h]Formula 1 Posted at16:37Formula 1 driver Marcus Ericsson terminates his contract with financially-stricken Caterham. He said in a statement: "Following recent events re Caterham Sports Limited and 1 MRT Sdn Bhd, my adviser Eje Elgh and I have decided to terminate, with immediate effect, all agreements connecting me to the Caterham F1 team. This is a sad day as we have greatly enjoyed working with the team through a difficult and tough season."
McLaren have confirmed that they will debut Honda's new engine during a filming day at Silverstone on Friday. The team will end their 20-year partnership with Mercedes at the end of the season to reunite with the Japanese manufacturer, with whom they four consecutive Constructors’ Championships between 1988 and 1991. McLaren confirmed on social media they would run “the interim Honda-engined MP4-29H/1X1” at the Northamptonshire venue on Friday. The team have been working on a test car to house the new power unit, but its running will be limited to just 100km due to the Sporting Regulations. Neither race driver will take part with the driving shared between test drivers Oliver Turvey and Stoffel Vandoorne. The team will also run two classic McLaren Honda's at Silverstone alongside their interim car. McLaren's 2015 line-up remains the subject of speculation. Fernando Alonso is expected to join the team from Ferrari next season and partner Kevin Magnussen, with Jenson Button leaving after five years. Interesting that neither race driver will be present, could mean both won't be racing next year?
Sweepstake on how many laps it manages to complete? More or less than the RBR did on its first testing day this earlier this year!?
