Yes I have one of these. I'm there now.
I've had a bit of a quick scout around mate, and although I couldn't get the form needed to check all Cup lead up races. I managed to track down quite a few, but as it's getting late, I've called it quits at 1989. All of the horses listed raced on the Saturday before the Cup. 3 days. Most ran in the G1 2000m Mackinnon, and a couple the G3 Lexus over 2500m on the same day. (Saturday) These are all winners, they don't take into account the many placed Cup horses.

2009 Shocking. Won Lexus.
2008 Viewed. Won Mackinnon.
2000 Brew. Won Lexus.
1999 Rogan Josh. Won Mackinnon.
1994 Jeune. 2nd mackinnon.
1992 Subzero. 5th mackinnon.
1991 Let's Elope. Won Mackinnon.
1989 tawrrific. 9th Mackinnon.

The list just goes on and on. The Saturday race is often a big part of blowing the cobwebs away. Hope it helps mate. Bed time.
 
Cyc: Many thanks for your efforts! Wow, does not seem to do them any harm at all. Guess if SYT won that Mackinnon comfortably it did him no harm too. Although ultimately disappointing for everyone, his failure to win the MC must be put down to being young and experienced over a trip he'd never tried before and the added soft ground over this distance? Anyway, his sheer class and courage got him into a very respectable third place. Ta again! <cheers>
