Still has the magic for me. The solution is for the FA to put more prize money into the Cup and put it back up there where it belongs. With so much money (and CL qualification) at stake for the EPL, it's no wonder clubs fail to give it the respect it deserves.

My best memories of supporting Saints are dominated by Cup competitions.

I'd love it - day out at Wembley, 40,000 or so in red & white, potential for glory/heartache etc. Would be amazing.

Have to agree with this. A couple of things were different though. Firstly, the cup was still massive back then, possibly bigger than the league title as it was pretty much the only live football that was shown on TV.

Also, of course, we were the massive underdogs and everyone (outside of Portsmouth and Manchester) wanted us to win but nobody (outside of Southampton) thought it was possible.

Walking round London after the game it was like I was personally responsible for the result. People would come out of pubs, taxi drivers would stop etc etc all to say well done, brilliant.

And then the drive back home and all that followed. And I was just about the right age too, old enough to drink and young enough not to be too cynical.

One thing now though, is that people are saying what a great chance we have of winning it, well obviously Saturdays game will be tough and then it largely depends on the draw. Whatever happens we will have to beat one of the top teams to win it which we haven't done so far this season, but have within the last 12 months.

Just wanted to expand that out a little more Lff.... I'd worry if we faced Chelsea at any point, but the others I think we'd have a good chance.

Oh, man. I was 15 in 1976, and for various personal reasons, none of which look like good ones from here, I didn't go to Wembley that day. I've been regretting it ever since, though I still have some great memories of that May and the following long, hot summer.

I was 6 and still look at my father with disgust in my eyes when 76 gets mentioned...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the semis move temporarily to Wembley because Arsenal played Spurs. It was considered that the game would be a sell out in London in a match between those two teams. I think it was wrong then, especially as they have continued with the practice.

They definitely should NOT be at Wembley. Wembley is for the final.

If you can't get up for a Cup run this season, then you never can. We couldn't be in a stronger position to be able to prioritise the Cup over the League.

Not a criticism by the way. If you're still not up for the Cup, then fine. No issue with that. You're presumably just someone who has no interest in the Cup full stop, and that's your choice. Fine.

And yes, the SFs should absolutely not be at Wembley.

(But they are, and if we get there, then I'm certainly getting myself a ticket!)

Out of intrest, does Perez take charge for FA cup matches or just do the interviews? If so do we reckon Perez would continue to if we went the whole way?

man u or chelsea could not beat us at our place, and are unbeaten in 8 home cup games this season, we were rubbish against hull, but will have borini back for the 5th round game !. the omenis we will win the league cup, and who knows in the fa cup ?.

Just does the interviews. In the Premier League, the manager needs to take press conferences, but in the cups an assistant can do it so it's easier just to get the fluent English speaker on them.
