Wolves v Liverpool: Live television coverage of FA Cup on BBC. Monday 7/01/2019 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46470609
Give the winners £50 million and make sure it's shown in every country. Then people will want to win the FA cup and treat it like PL or CL.
The fa cup has lost its appeal. I'm not sure a cl spot or any prize money will give it back its glory. A big side usually wins it, but it's been ages since I've watched the final even, it's just not there. It died when utd pulled out to play the club world cup thing, it just devalued the entire enterprise.
Yeah, even though Ferguson and Edwards in conjuction with the FA at the time telling us Utd pulled out to help the World Cup bid, when the reality was Utd wanted to promote their global brand at expense of England's and the world's oldest and most well known cup competition. You're right about it losing its importance in the modern game amongst the big clubs who see a top 4 finish and a run in the CL more preferable and more important financially. Shame really.
It is a shame, the fa cup was once a really big deal and full of clichés that never the less where fantastic. I used to love cup final day regardless of who played in it. Giant killers where another great thing, plucky underdogs, jumpers for goal posts .it was boss. Now if we drew the dog and duck and then got beat, I wouldnt really be bothered. A bit pissed off, but only till next weekend when the prem started again.
How plastic are 8th placed Man U. "Manchester United fan groups have backed the club's announcement about making major changes to the Stretford End in order to enhance the atmosphere. (Manchester Evening News)" It's a disgrace that they can't generate a good atmosphere without needing phoney "singing sections".
what they actually mean is all white males collect here and sing vile songs. then they will be first into safe standing cos that's cheaper than doing the 90k all seater they could have done. if you compare Utd now to the 1990s they have lost everything
Think it’s unfair to blame Utd as the FA wanted Utd at world club - plus it had already entered its decline at that point. The prem killed the FA cup imho it’s just a slow death Whether we like it or not a CL place is one of the things that would get it taken seriously but still not sure it would take it back to what it once was Maybe they will give a europa league 2 place to it ffs
They are trying to fix it, slowly. Like the whole replay thing is just stupid, I much prefer the league cup result on the night format. I don't think a champions league place is right, but it needs a bigger incentive. I have always thought it should be a lot more money or even a fixed number of points given to the winner. That could save a team from relegation, help someone get a champions league place or help a team get promoted
The decline started when clubs began to develop squads rather than a first eleven and a couple of backups. This produced the main obstacle we see today; clubs saving their first team players for 'more important games'. Nor was it helped by the ever growing gap between the top league and everyone else, we've even got a hugh gap within the PL nowadays. It needs something extreme to spice it up, a bit like cricket introducing 20:20. For example... 60min games with no extra time or replays, a significant prize per round and a extremely incentive prize for winning it.
sad thing about the fa cup is its seen as an inconvenience now days to the top teams. top 4 and cl football is sadly where the money is, and top clubs need the income from this just as much as the smaller clubs need a run in the cup to survive. Fa dont care about this though sadly.
Maybe exclude teams that are in Europe that season? Means a team that currently isn't in Europe will be the following season. Also means the top sides like Man City won't be in the competition.
