Var can upgrade a yellow to a red. What they couldn’t do is retrospectively upgrade it from a yellow to a red (before var was in use).

Where things should have been a red and were missed completely fa used to hand out retrospective bans, but if ref had booked a player then they couldn’t upgrade - although I think there were 1 or 2 cases, think there was the elbow by Man City player some 15 years ago? Ben thatcher for some reason rings a bell

    **** YOU

You insult me, then double down on it and I'm the nasty twat?
    Never call me a tyke.

Barnsley only. I'm saying tell you this as someone from Yorkshire, if you refer to anyone from Yorkshire that isn't from Barnsley, be prepared to be punched in the face.
How would you like it if I were to call you a Scally?

You want to get a ****ing grip lad. I was born on Scotty Road. The dictionary defines a tyke as someone from Yorkshire, not specifically Barnsley. If violence is your only recourse, then you're one sad man <doh>

Pretty sure there are loads of words in the dictionary we don't use to refer to people anymore. And while this may not be the same issue as some of them, the 'its in the dictionary' excuse doesn't wash anymore.

I've told you three times. Tyke is only use in Yorkshire for someone from Barnsley.

It is an insult for anyone else from anywhere else in Yorkshire.

Try getting out of the 1950s, learn

I don't want to get involved in who is and isn't a Tyke but the Leeds Uni rag magazine was called The Tyke. Don't know if it still is or if universities even do rag week anymore.

You don't refer to someone from Sheffield as a Tyke, especially in football terms.

This could be a Sheffield/Barnsley/South Yorkshire thing.
I would never refer to myself as a 'Tyke' nor would anyone else I know from Sheffield cause it's connected to Barnsley and being labelled from Barnsley is an insult to people from Sheffield. So I've only ever heard it solely for people from Barnsley.
Can't speak for people from Leeds on a whole, but I've never heard them to refer to themselves as Tyke either.
So saying 'anyone from Yorkshire' is not right.

    I am a big worrier
I don’t worry when they are talking about us

I worry when we are no longer relevant and people don’t talk about us

They're from Barnsley, they play in the Sheffield and district league. Sheffield and District is an old fashioned term for South Yorkshire

'Junior Tykes Football Club is a Grassroots Club based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.'

And they're connected to Barnsley FC

    I'll accept your apology now.

    Like I say.

Nobody I've ever met from Sheffield has referred to themselves as a Tyke because of the connection to Barnsley football club and Barnsley in general. (and I live close to Barnsley)

Hell the Wednesday and Sheff U fans refuse to refer to each other as Wednesday and Blades. They call each other 'the Pigs', which can get very confusing.

Thanks Johnson's. One of my best mates at Uni and still is is from Sheffield. His dad was landlord of the Mason's Arms in Crookes. We called him the White Rose Tyke **** and he never complained. Still doesn't <laugh>

Ironically, Santa's the biggest tyke-softie of them all.

Going to sort of back both of you here but more Roger
I have ran a lot of courses over in Yorkshire (Leeds & Donny mainly)and on on of my early ones I made the mistake of referring to the group as Tykes

they politely put me straight - and the course went fine
However on the course evaluations they did make reference to not being happy about that comment
    - nearly all of them
In fact 11 of the 12 did
So that possibly means that not everyone takes offence as RHC is saying however that the majority would punch your face in lol as RIH is saying <cheers><peacedove>
