Seriously mate, I've asked you and the answers have come across, no not viable yet and IF's....for fear of not wanting to appear rude, we are talking about the economy of Billions of people. I'm afraid if it was as easy as the 'goodlife' (see video above) I'd be all on board, but the modern world now relys on travel andd globalisation. If they seriously think they can change all this then good luck, but it's all pie in the sky. It also defeats the whole objectives of just the EU movement alone. Now we will be telling people, don't travel stay where you are. Your identity will be built within the confines of movement.....until someone can build electric aeroplanes that can cope with the numbers.
Changes need to be made. Changes are being made and more needs to be done. We don't need anarchist loons turning people against the cause though.
I agree, it's not viable tomorrow. But surely the answer is that we have to move towards that technology today ?
Well you best get started on that electric jumbo jet then mate.....come back to me when you've completed the project
Is enough being done quickly enough though ? We still rely on 80% fossil fuel worldwide for energy. At the rate we're adding to Co2 to the atmosphere, we're heading for a 4 deg temp increase, which according to the science means a fairly catastrophic future for life on Earth. I agree though that there is a danger that the 'cause' gets lost in people's frustration to get to work etc. It's a bit like a train drivers strike, most people are onside with them in the beginning, but after a few weeks of disruption people get pissed off.
I just think if what Extinction Rebellion want was feasable then the Green Party would have been all over it by now.
Who cares if we use up our resources on keep-sakes, acidify our oceans and poison the very air we breathe, as long as the economy works **** it.
Can I place an order for several thosand and jumbo jet size, just to help cope with the initial need Oh btw mate, all the steel used for bridges....how are we planning to make them for the future, will we return to wood and cutting down trees?
The main change needed is the reduction in coal by major countries, people having less TV's in the home is a small change but coal powered industry is the main cause of pollution along with vehicle pollution.
You've said yourself it's a transition. So yes it's not going to happen overnight, but electric planes are coming. As for steel, you don't need to switch to wood. It's about how the steel is produced, which currently is Co2 heavy. But there are alternatives https://www.technologyreview.com/s/...-one-of-the-globes-biggest-climate-polluters/
I can't remember using that word 'transition.' As for electric planes are coming, well, extinction rebellion, need to be patient then. Actually, do us a favour, nip over to Westminster and tell them the good news
