Because our defense is water tight, all we need to do is nick a goal and there you go - 3 points. Time now for my medication.
Form wise we have the advantage, in terms of styles ours gives us a large advantage, but the main difference is that we can play excellently and not manage to get a goal, United can play badly and score three or four. The other problem is that Van Persie hasn't scored in a couple of games and people are starting to question him, so he's bound to bag a hatful against us, I have sealed this fate by taking him out of my fantasy team yesterday so it is now an inevitability. A win or draw would be great and not out of our reach, but I wouldn't be gutted if we lost and it's still the likeliest outcome. I fear the way this is heading this is going to be the 'coming back down to earth with a bump' moment for some of our fans.
We're 6.8 (nearly 6/1) to win on Betfair. That's outstanding value, a real steal of a price. Should be less than half that price imo. Or I may just lay Man U at 1.58, and cover the draw as well.
Actually, you need a reality check because reality is that we are the better team at the moment. And I stress the word team, because they have a few players that are far superior then ours and can single handedly solve the match in their advantage. That's the only reason why i can't say we will get a result at Old Trafford, but I'm fairly confident we will put in a strong performace and be at least an equal opponent.
Although it's rare these days for anyone to feel confident about going to Old Trafford and getting a result, ManU have had some pretty ordinary times during my Saints supporting era. The problem has been, ours have often coincided. It's been a fortress during the Busby and Ferguson years. In between, they've been highly beatable. Liverpool used to tonk them on a regular basis, if memory serves. Could be a good time to play them before Moyes gets another era underway.
Personally, I agree with someone who posted earlier that it's actually a bad time to play them, so soon after the WBA win. They will be well aware that we matched them last season, and be bang up for it. We will give them a game, but lose 2-0. And I will get serious stick all the way back south in the car.
Unfortunately there are more united fans in Hampshire than saints fans. For the next couple of years at least.
If we pick up no injuries during the international break I will be backing us again with another sizable bet, like I did for the Liverpool game.
When we played at Anfield I was of the opinion that if we could get to halftime goalless then we had a reasonably good chance of nicking it. I feel the same thing applies at OT, especially as their 'fans' will begin to get on their backs, and with the crowd on their backs and the Saints in their faces I believe we could bring back a point or three. Then I remind myself of what West Ham did to Spurs excellent defensive record...!!
We'll press them high up the pitch and make a game out of it. After Utd lost 6-1 to City, they won the next six matches one nil (or something like that), so expect Utd to be a little cautiouss. Though saying that, I think they'll bounce back and beat us 3-1.
Too confident for this one compared to my normal pessimistic self!Would take a draw happily now!A good time to play them after their poor performances of late. Int break has probably come at the wrong time for us however!I saw a group of Saints fans in Dublin are meeting up in a city centre pub for it so I might meet them.
United fans giving us some respect on one of their boards. They're actually seriously worried about us taking points off them. Refreshing to see!
Already put all my betting account on the win, I probably should have waited for the teams to be read out but I think our odds will come in between now and the game. I think that we would win this at least 1 in 5 times so odds of 6/1 are decent. If we play well away to the champions I won't be disappointed regardless of the result. I think our defence while it has played well is getting a bit too much praise but if we can keep a clean sheet this game that would be absolutely brilliant.
We're a few more results against top sides before I start expecting anything more than a hard-fought loss...definitely as good a chance as any to take points, though, so I'm hopeful.
We have a good chance of points or a point in this game, but shan't be tearing my hair out if we lose (as long as only by 1 or 2 goals). No disgrace to lose at OT...just dust yourself off and move on. Our whole season does not hang on this one game nor does losing make us a poor team. We need to win against the low and middle teams....they are still worth 3 points.
