Kevin Phillips would be great this level and Charlie Austin, who failed his physical for Hull.

DT, after you we're predicting top 10 finish for us last season (as was I, and as we should have been with the squad we had), I like the way your predictions are going this season.

I just hope you're as wrong this year as you were last year :)

For those who can't grasp my delusions ... that was what happens when you have zero creativity in your side ... Granero excluded as the only one brave enough to make a pass that was quick enough. I tell you lads we are are in serious **** ... sod the result even if we had scored we were contained far too easily by a team little better than county league standard. We sell Taarabt then the club is in serious trouble and i can't watch that ****e ... we were going nowhere and that was rubbish ... how Exeter can think they did well i don't know?. Sorry lads but you win those games and if no one on here watched that game can't see the frustration and disjointness of the players in a non team ... then wish away because we will get hammered at times and as last year will be chasing games when its too late

I know sorry lads but you all know what i think of this squad ... not the problem here ... it should all bloody just work but we are three passes too many at times ... even at my lower levels i know you switch to that when you have scored ... we take the heat out of a game that hasn't defrosted in the first place ... i should know it was what i was good at linking the play in a game for absolutely no reason whatsoever apart from keeping the ball ... you need a few more plans than that going forward ... Flyer? do you not?

At times I forget just how kneejerk this board can get.

That was the first pre-season friendly. The players are searching for fitness, re-finding their touch and learning the systems that Redknapp wants them to play in. What did anyone really expect. A 10 - 0 thrashing? Really?

All of the above reduce the difference in quality between teams on different levels, but gaining fitness and learning the manager's systems is precisely why we have pre-season friendlies.

In spells we looked like we were attempting a fluid passing game, that requires a level of fitness that the players will not have acquired as yet, but maybe the markers are being laid. It is far too early to judge.

Seriously Roller even me thought 5 or 6 and some expression ... some QPR expression ... it's in our bloody heritage. They had a week ... can i ask about Ben Haim?

Sorry but you play your strongest team here and rotate it with effect after you have won the game. WE knocked it around but in 90 minutes made 2 chances at most

I doubt that Redknapp is concerned about QPR's heritage and what you or I may regard as QPR expression.

The first couple of pre-season matches are more about getting everyone's fitness levels up and laying the foundations for the tactics in semi-competitive matches for pushing on than anything else. If I remember correctly we scored plenty of goals in the last two seasons pre-season, **** all good that did us.

I couldn't agree more with what you say about a lack of invention without Taarabt, but I fear that chapter is closing.

If I went on my hols for a month or so and had to find my touch when I got back to work, I'd be shown the ****ing door!

I think Harry will do a Bale with Traore. Albeit a Championship version. Harry will utilise Traore's pace and attacking guile by moving him further up the pitch. He will become our new secret weapon.

The opposition are three leagues below us. They too are pre-season as regards fitness. We should be winning these games, no excuses. We have players who should be fitter and better, as befits former PL players on many times the wages of the Exeter lads. It is not a knee jerk reaction to expect a team that cost ten of millions to put together to be able to beat Exeter. I fear another horror season ahead at this rate. Please God lets hope the disappointment isn't going to start already.

Thats something some of us have been calling for well over a year. Its not exactly a move that only a genius can see.

It's a no brainer, in my view, that Traore should be tried further up the field to attack and provide for our strikers.

I'll wait until 5.00pm on Saturday 3rd August.

Remember that Newcastle United were thrashed by Leyton a couple of years back in a preseason friendly and the Geordies were leaping off their roofs.

Fast forward nine months. They were celebrating promotion at LR.

I'm really glad I didn't stay in and watch the stream. From reading the official match report we were void of any creativity and ideas. What do we expect when we send our one creator home?
Only positive thing I read was SWP being knocked over, hopefully he won't be able to get in to the 25 man squad now. That would then force Harry to give Ale a full run, we all know he can perform.
I'm just disappointed that we couldn't find the net against such lowly opposition, it would have bothered me less if it had finished 1-1 with a number of chances. Sadly not the case. Buckle up friends, it's going to be a rough ride ahead me senses.

Spot on, pre-season is the best time to put in crap performances as you shake off the summer cobwebs...

Mate i agree with you entirely, which is why i get so pi**ed off by managers like Fergie, Wenger etc when they moan about the England team having friendlies.
Its all ok for them to have preseaon tours and friendlies but when the national side needs to practice together in the lead up to a tournament it called a waste of time.
    Sorry...Rant over...Back to Exeter!

Agreed to an extent. Having not watched the game, I can only surmise to say that however poorly we played, as mentioned, it is only the first game of many and on a positive spin, sounds like we can only improve.

I must admit that I would expect the team to be rusty, slightly off the boil, etc but I would expect some basics to be in place and working.
For me, the jury is still out and until we confirm the team as a whole ( no one else coming or going ) ........... I wouldn't expect any real gelling to be happening.

It may well be more of the same happening again this season simply because we have a team who just don't give a stuff OR they get stuck into it and come together.
I'm hoping it is the latter .................
