I also agree that players being thrust upon a manager is not good practice and I feel that the Manager and DOF should work together but if he is "demanding" control surely he should be here with his finger on the pulse so too speak. I wonder if his list of targets that he has given to Congleton include Messi, Ronaldo etc in which case he should be back discussing secondary targets lol. With regards to scouting - how many players have we seen look the dogs bollocks at a major tournament only to flop when they are signed by an EPL club hopefully if he does sign one/two they can buck the trend. I thought we only had Jozy going to the finals?
A football club should work as a team ....... one man having total control doesn't work for me, unless it's someone like Ferguson. What people forget is that he didn't have total control for years, far from it. He only tightened his grip after winning endless trophies ..... ...... Poyet has won nowt so I wouldn't be happy with him 'taking over' at Sunderland.
Personally, I think management by committee, which is what you appear to be advocating has no place in football, or almost any team sport I can think of. Someone has to lead, direct, manage, report on, be accountable of, an organisational model such as a football team. Otherwise when things are going wrong and direction is urgently sought, heads can look in differing sources for direction.
Not at all. I just believe that if Poyet is in total control we may as well sack all the scouts etc. Poyet can't do everything, he said the job was killing him. If we allow him total control and it goes wrong we have no option but to sack him and start again. I'm sick to death of starting again.
I think there has to be a hierarchy and I see nothing wrong with Gus wanting to be at the top of it. As I see it much will depend on Congerton. If he`s good and Gus and him work together then that bodes well. If he turns out to be a Wise or deFanti (or heaven forbid, Joke) then we`re knackered. The thing is atm we can`t tell. All we`ve seen is players going out and until they start coming in there`s no evidence on which to form an opinion,
If Poyet's idea of an essential player, for Sunderland, is Bridcutt then I have to defend my reservations. The other Brighton lad, he seems intent on, makes me wonder if his horizons are limited. Perhaps he needs someone to question his judgment.
That`s exactly what I meant about working together. Suggestions, recommendations etc. After all, isn`t that what scouts are for? I`m not enamoured of the `I want that player go get him` attitude and I wouldn`t expect Gus to be as inflexible as that. At least I hope not.
No one is suggesting Poyet has to do it all. Of course he can't do the scouting as well. Its up to him to identify the remit, the type of player required, and the scouts job to find suitable players who'll make their recommendations to GP. Based on their reports, video evidence, player stats, etc, it's then his job to say yes or no. If it's yes it's Congleton's job to go get him. That's how it should work, with one man making the final decision on who should be in the squad, who should be on the bench and who should be on the pitch.
It's a deal I have no problem with that, as I said earlier it's teamwork and the club working towards one goal.
