I'll take your word for it as I refuse to pay WOL to read their articles. Someone else posted it on facebook for free
I don't pay and can usually read everything. In fact they have stopped cutting off most articles to promote their paid service. I guess they haven't had many sign ups but still want people to read what they churn out.

I seem to recall you saying you didn't like Facebook either due to all the dross on there.

Best you stick to the other Cardiff City message board where jck was a frequent poster.

£500k??? Maybe we should have hung on to him a bit longer???
You wonder how much money we have wasted, bringing in journeymen, when a bit of coaching might have got as good a performance out of what we already had for a fraction of the cost. Probably a few that could have done a job let go for nothing.
Let's hope BBM changes all that.

Just to put it in perspective, Walcott played 3 times for us before we let him go to York, after one or two loans out. I think we sold him for 2 old pennies and a Mars bar so any sell on clause is highly unlikely, and it was I think 2 years or so ago.

Yes he has done well for York but that is in the National League, 2 divisions below Div 1. Can he succeed at a higher level and is the Jocks Prem all that?

Hearts offering £500k indicates he is hardly a Guehi or Konsa or Rodon even. At that price worth a gamble.

Also don't forget where we got him from, the same club as the renowned goal machine Etete.

We seem to ruminate over young players we allow to leave, why? The coaches see these guys every day and monitor their stats. They have a pretty good idea of what they might achieve.

I'm wracking my brain to think of anything youngster who we allowed to leave for no or little money other than Josh Magennis who has gone on to have a good career. And don't throw Mark Harris back at me. I never rated him with us. He may cover big distances in a game but for me he is stealing a living as a footballer. Now released by Oxford.

There are quite a few performing under BBM that seceral managers 'saw every day' but wouldnt play them regulary. Or played them out of position then discarded them.
They had no idea 'of what they might acheive'.
Ignore the teenagers who would have been too young, but plenty others.
How many offcasts could have stepped up with the right coaching and game time.

I go back to my question, how many have had any success since shown the door. Surely that indicates a certain accurate level of judgement previously?

Clearly BBM has had a different philosophy to his predecessors hence the number coming through last season although I'm not convinced they will all develop into the real deal.

But also look at the number let go recently. Decisions have to be made based on likely opportunities going forward, perceived ability and ceilings achievable and basic economics.

Much as we would like them all to succeed that simply won't happen.

I wonder how many will move up and make the grade in 26/27 at a higher level? And of those who performed well in 25/26 will keep it up next season?

I don't belive in rose tinted specs. I'm much more of a realist.

I tend to be a realist myself.
And as we cant re-run the past, we'll never know.
It's all ifs, buts and maybes.
A player leaves and drops down the leagues, plays with less able players and gets lower quality coaching. He wont develop in the same way as he might have if he'd been kept.

Yes, we let a lot go this year. There isnt room for everyone. But we kept some, promoted some. Its more than we've done for a long time.
One person responsible, the manager.
How many managers in the last 5+ years would have played Lawlor? He'd soon be gone, and certainly wouldnt have signed a 4 year contract.

Colin, Mick, Erol? None would have played Lawlor. They'd all have gone for 'experience'. Saying that, Mick could have played him. There might have been room in his 5 CB defense.

How many of Ashford, Davies, Kpakio, the Colwills, would have had game time? We'd have spent good wages on 'experience'.

As I said, ifs, buts and maybes.
I know which option I'd prefer.
