Who would you have as our next Manager

Past...not necessarily the future. The past matters to fans, but not a manager (who are usually just passing through). Koeman has said many times that he finishes contracts....he gave his last club a years notice that he wasn't re-signing. Under those circumstances we will probably be happy to keep Ronald....unless the manager we want is available now.
Koeman strikes me as an honourable type of chap, so that wouldn't surprise me.

I think he's done a cracking job at your spot, under difficult circumstances when he first arrived.

I'd happily take him at Everton btw, but we'll see how it pans out.

They are. They have just got a **** manager who doesn't know how to organise a defence. With the team Everton have they should be about 5th.
Is the right answer.

Martinez has been abysmal for 18 months, he took a side that was defensively solid under Moyes and has slowly turned it into a replica of Wigan.

With the squad we've got, under a good manager - we should have been in the mix with the likes of West Ham, Liverpool and yourselves for the top 6 at least.

As a proposition, our new owner has promised to invest into putting the club back up where it should be, and to do that he needs a top notch manager. I can see why Koeman would appeal.

Everton are the bigger club, but we are the better run club.

Bigger club I'll just about give you, on the basis of bigger gates. But I'm pretty sure their wage bill isn't significantly greater than ours. When Ron does leave, he can do better.

I think you will get De Boer unless a big club randomly sack their manager before you.

Koeman is an honourable man...shame it is an industry where managers are shed after a few dodgy results. Being the Saints manager is a nice job as we have money and ambition, but have suffered recently and don't have the sense of entitlement that teams like United have (for example).

Well Dutch clubs and managers are fairly used to rebuilding after lots of players leave so he was perfect for that situation.

Perhaps your owners are looking at him because they expect Lukaku, Stones, Barkley, Deulofeu etc to leave this summer? <yikes><whistle>

9 first division league titles, 5 FA Cups and a Cup winners cup.

*shrugs*

What is it with scousers and history? Always banging on about the past. You're nearly as bad as that bunch of underacheivers whose shadow you're permanently in; and who themselves are in the shadow of the big city neighbours up the M62.

I wasn't banging on about it though mate, and it's our history, which is part of what defines a big football club.

Lukaku and Stones are as good as gone. I'd expect the other 2 to remain (they've both been pish since the turn of the year anyway)

Lukaku thinks he's World Class and wants CL and Stones has refused a new deal and thinks he's Franz Beckenbauer.

The former will be a massive loss, the latter not so much. £100m the pair, daft money eh....

So whoever the new man is will likely have circa £200m burning a hole in his pocket

It's good to know your history. Greece, for instance, was once the cradle of European civilisation. The Athenian Empire challenged that of nearby Persia, and was the model for subsequent empires from the Roman to the Russian to the British. How they doing now, the Greeks?

Most of them were paying no tax and retiring in their 40's until relatively recently, so I reckon they were doing alright mate.

They're now spending the Germans cash with aplomb.

Very definitive mate.

It's widely rumoured on the main Everton forums that he's firmly in the frame to replace Martinez.

Make of that what you will.

Cheers.

It was from the daily mirror on Wednesday, it is well known this paper has stirred non stories about saints for a couple of seasons now........make of that what you will.

Southampton are concerned manager Ronald Koeman will not extend his contract - which has a year to run - amid interest from Everton and Arsenal. (Daily Mirror)

Koeman doesn't need to prove himself at a club trying to get 10th to 6th, he's done that two years in a row with us. Can't see why he's go to Everton. Fully expect him to see out his contract and leave though.

He'd go there if he thought that Everton was more likely to make the jump into the top four, which is debatable but entirely defensible.

If they sell their best players then I can't see them getting near top 4. Think we'd have more of a chance providing we keep ours.

That's a substantial proviso, and Everton appears to have quite a bit of money to invest beyond that received for the sale of those players. It's not a surefire thing that they will surpass us, but I can see some liking their odds better than ours.

This all seems to be coming down to what our budget will be for next season. I'm all for being reasonable, and Leicester have taught us a lot, but I hope we don't waste an opportunity to grow a bit. It's not like we need a major backroom rebuild or squad clearout.
