As our squad stands now I'd say the bookies have got it right. What cover do we have in defense if Solly's knees go? Barnes is a decent prospect but hasn't played for the U-21's yet. Cousins can play RB, but he can only play one position at a time. Our CB's are Bauer, the Beast, Lennon, Thomas and Obileye. We don't have a RM either, not a right-footed one. And last season Blackpool had one of the relegation spots tied up from the word go, which is not the case this season, so let's hope Katrien is successful in her attempts to bolster the squad.

It must be great to be Phil Chapple at this time of the year. There he is, sitting on a beach in a hot country, enjoying the proceeds of his large salary - while all of his peers are busy working.

If Chapple's holiday planning is anything like his scouting then the beach he is sitting on is in .... Tunisia..

Surely bookie's odds are calculated according to the amount of money wagered, not by their own forecasts?

And a big slice is usually from fans loyally and optimistically backing their own clubs, as shown in this thread.

I have always considered Charlton fans to be better educated and more mature than the average. Therefore more likely to realise that gambling is a mug's game and thus less likely to waste their hard-earned cash by betting on their club to succeed.

Tasteful post, All Hell. Are you Russell Brand in disguise?

B&M, it is the british way to laugh and joke about our troubles and not to let those people planning against us win...... which they rarely do <ok>

It can be affected by betting patterns, but when a bet makes the market it will be from their own research.

I'm quite the Craps player. Every month I add about £650 to my salary (average), Tax Free (might I add), by shooting dice in the Casino. Some nights I could leave with just my stake lost. I only gamble my stake and winnings. Not stupid on that part.

Accas, horses, etc., I'm terrible at, so I usually just stick to Casino games. Baccarat; alright game to play, Pai Gow is an interesting game to play. Especially when the table is full of Chinese players.

Well the good news is that after last weeks transfer activity <ok> ......... Charlton have shortened for relegation...... oh.... ! ..... :(

At the end of May, Skybet had Charlton at 7/2 (3.5/1) for relegation and this morning we are 9/4 (2.25/1)...... the Sky pundits are obviously not impressed with our Foreign Legion.

It never ceases to amaze me how the latest announcement of a new overseas cast off is greeted with euphoria by an element of our support. It's as if Douche Bag has broken the mould, and gone foreign for the first time in some sort of ground breaking transfer revolution.

Anyone else recall the same hype over LePoint last season - "experienced, highly rated by Luzon, great coup getting him" etc etc.

I am still looking at the league for 3 teams worse than us - Birmingham, Huddersfield and Rotherham?

Birmingham have brought well... One from us that Doucébag shouldn't have got rid of.

They've also got a better manager.

I think they look at the capabilities of the team, ability and prestige of the manager. Luzon(everyday) does not exactly scream "world class"

Hopefully today's game will give us a few pointers. I hope it's competitive, Luzon should put out what he considers his strongest team, and our new signings should all play a big enough part to give us a rough idea.

Paddy power have a top premier league goal scorer bet on where if you put a score on you get a 2 quid free bet every time they score a league goal.

    I missed it last year!

Think it said you could have a go right up to the 8th.

    I fancied Benteke at I think 16s.

Going to go with Aguero purely because I think I'll get more free bets off it. That's the value in going for him at those prices.

Reading an article today; they have Rotherham, Reading and MK Dons.

This is what they had to say on each:
    Rotherham United
Prediction for their season ahead: Millers boss Steve Evans will once again be working on a shoestring budget and will have to be typically astute in the transfer window this summer, with precious few options available at the moment.

Rotherham only narrowly avoided the drop last season but I feel it will be a case of second-season syndrome for Evans' men this time around.

    Reading
Prediction for their season ahead: The FA Cup aside, Royals had a dreadful campaign last season. At the moment, they’ve hardly got any players, including no senior goalkeepers. You’d hope re-enforcements will arrive, but at the moment, you can’t see anything other than a relegation battle.

Fans would be delighted at mid-table mediocrity.

    MK Dons
Prediction for their season ahead: Probably a relegation battle.

I still got my bets on Rotherham, Reading and QPR. Also think it's the only article where we have not been predicted to get relegated.

Surprised about reading - I haven't kept an eye on them but I've seen them be linked to several players, decent ones at that.

I wonder why they haven't gotten them over the line?

You have QPR to go straight down?

It's quite plausible. Look at former premiership teams that have hit double relegation, Wigan, Wolves, us. Happened with a large flux of players leaving, and the quality left was just not good enough. I think that they'll grossly underestimate the Championship, they've got rid of most of their players, and Charlie Austin will leave. I think going into this season QPR are worse off than us, and Wigan last season...

They also have serious money issues, and if I recollect a massive fine from the Football League for breaching FFP?

Probably because they don't have the money. They're broke; and the players just want too much money. Steve Clarke is not a great manager, and reading the match review against Crawley they were a complete shambles!
