There's no reason to believe we have a better chance over 2 legs v Napoli than winning todays match. Terrible decision by whoever made this choice.

Valley, how would you manage the squad for the next 2 games then? Only 3 days between the 2.

Maybe our board want the free jollies to Europe to continue. Remember Dineen at Valencia?

Monk has used his head here and used players who laudrup left out in the cold to show them that they are part of the team and boy have they responded. Nobody can say the players never performed and if it was not for an error by taylor and a penalty then we were a threat and in the game, I would rather that than laudrups football where everton would have slaughtered us. you can see we are frustrating everton with the amount of fouls they are doing as they thought it was going to be an easy game and its been anything but that....well thought out monk with napoli and liverpool games imminent....

Play our strongest sides. Not to mention jonjo and Michu should be back by then.

    Really?

Then why not play our strongest today. The players have more time to recover between today and Napoli, than Napoli and Liverpool. Surely the EPL is our priority so why risk injuries to key players in the Napoli game.

    Napoli.

Unfortunately, today's game was the least important.

We won't win against Liverpool will we - so let's put this team out again so we can concentrate on winning the games that matter.

But we could get a point, especially with the way we are improving under Monk.

Very frustrated and disappointed with Monk. This was the game to go for, not Napoli. Fair play, the guys made a fist of it but that's no consolation for a missed opportunity by the management. I presume we'll be putting the same team out on Thursday as the league's the only thing that matters (that was sarcasm btw).

Well it looks like Monk got his way and has one less competition to worry about . Quite a wierd time for an evaluation session , 5th round of the FA Cup

Because we should have a fully fit squad to pick from and can sub better players as the games dictate if we are doing well pull key players off if we've got game won late on or add in iff its tight hopefully better options and some lads given the chance today have shown they can be relied on if needed to do a job for us.
Any combination of players bar one or two give us a strong depth team to face the coming games now.

I disagree. Napoli's the least important and that's a chance to rest players twice.

The better we show for ourselves in Europe the more players would be enticed to join the club, FA Cup has no pull anymore. Napoli game is far more important than the FA Cup.

I agree Daimungeezer. Napoli although more glamorous is more likely to result in defeat than the Everton match. Today was more important based on that.

but unless we win the Europa League, we won't be in Europe next season - so that's no pull is it ?

I dunno about that, Everton are doing well in a far stronger league than Serie A.
