28m is a lot but if we'd had it, I'd have paid it. I think he is top class. We were never going to be in the running at that fee and even if we had, he'd have chose Everton because of last season, Martinez and him getting close etc etc.

I still think Wickham is a good cheaper option of that type.

Again, you could buy both Aubameyang and Remy for the same amount.

You'd still not have that complete centre forward though. Both those look better coming from deep. Lukaku's are so expensive because they are so rare in the modern game. The best are all snapped up. RVP, Benzema, Falcao, Ibra, Costa, Lukaku, Benteke, Lewandowski, Mandzukic, Cavani - those old style centre forwards are not that plentiful. Everton have done really well to get one of the top breed. Of course you can compensate by playing a different way with false 9's etc but the fact the Real's, Dortmunds, Bayerns, PSGs, Monacos, Man U's, Chelseas, Arsenals etc all want one tells a story in itself about how easy it is to be effective using false 9's. There ain't many Barcas circa 2010!

Depends where you are in the pecking order.

If you are looking to win the Champions League, you want the best possible player in each position. Two very good players is no substitute for one great player.

If you are us, though, you want the best players you can get. A very good striker and a very good defender is probably better value for us than one great striker.

This. I think Everton have slightly forgotten who they are and what they're trying to achieve. Lukaku will not get them into the top 4.

Remy I think played 24 league games with us last season for 14 goals, Lukaku played 31 games for Everton with 15 goals I believe, I know who I would spend £15 million on.

Good as he is, definitely not worth £28 million. Everton paying way over the top for his services, especially as everyone was saying Chelsea would accept £18m for him.

Is he really that expensive when you consider the £30m paid for Shaw, £16m Arsenal for Chambers - both teenage FBs. Throw in £25m for Lallana.
When he helps Everton push for a CL place again, it'll be money well spent.

Everton show some ambition whilst we wander around Europe doing exactly what, other than keeping MA's bank balance intact.

All of those quoted are over priced in my opinion.

To be honest, we put the rest of the Prem to shame, when you put it like that. Every club should be run in the real world, not fantasy land. It's about time everyone stopped this fcking circus from spiralling out of control. I mean, £16m for Chambers? Makes Carroll look like a bargain.

Too much for us now after seeing some of the crazy prices hoyed about. Then again, he is foreign, might lower it a bit? £16m?

I'd risk that. He'd be perfect for us. Remy was quality last year too, I'd have no problem shelling out 13m on him. Ba was one I'd have liked, obviously age is a problem for us but 3.5m? Bargain for me.

18-20m for the pair? We would look seriously threatening for that top 8. Maybe not quite good enough with Pards at the helm but squad wise looking decent. Wickham young and English. Colback young and English. All helps us meet the quotas. We don't want a Chelsea situ where they are talking about offloading one because of quotas.

28 million is a huge amount for Everton to pay, even if it is for a damn fine VERY young pl proven striker.

However I tend to think that Everton will have paid approx 18-20-22 mil for him the rest being add-ons (CL qualification/sell-on etc etc )..as he is young and chelsea do have some nous about them. The papers will always add up every possible /potential fee + taxi fares when announcing the price (Curious as to what everton/their fans themselves are announcing the price as ..cant be arsed to look though)

That all said ..Lukaku was the ONE striker I had hoped we would have gone for..but in the max 20 mil price range, and he would have been a strong sign of...gasp....ambition/strengthening on our part.. So I am not surprised we didn't.

Fair play to Everton though ...and to Lukaku/Martinez

Connor Wickham as cheap alternative? Cant imagine he would be THAT cheap..didn't they pay 8 odd mil for him initially?....Haven't seen much of him at all ...but he never struck me as anywhere near close to what Lukaku offers.

Benteke would be my next choice for the type of striker we NEED (but wont try for as he is valued at 50pence more than we value him at).. but in my opinion, even he is a fair way behind what Lukaku offers a team.

Overall..think its good business by Everton.. Expensive ..absolutley, but not insane expensive (relatively speaking), If it works out fro him at Everton he will only gain value..if it doesnt and everton sell in 2-3 yrs ..they wont lose much if anything

Wickham is out of contract next summer. He is no where near Lukaku, but could be a useful development project in our price range. The suggestion of him and Remy would be pleasing. I'd like Benteke of course but reality and all that.

I think Lukaku will show just how good he is next season.

£13 for Remy, £5 for Whickham? I'd take them both. We're desperately light up front, although Perez looks better than I thought he'd be.
