Just because you’re a ‘big lad’ does not automatically make you a target man.

I think of Tim Cahill, Kevin Davis (yeah I know he was around 6 foot but he wasn’t massive) who were very handy at winning headers, getting fouls, and dragging a team up the pitch.

I agree with all those who have stated Everton have set back his development. With SD there he’ll want him to become more physical, and potentially he is the perfect manager to teach him that. Personally I think simms is a tidy finisher with decent potential to form a good career in the Championship and maybe the lower half of the prem under the right guidance and support, which I am adamant he would have had with us. I would still have him here any day of the week, I think he worked best as a front two.

Agree with this. He struck me as a confidence player.....needs to feel he belongs, and part of it. I think there's a decent finisher there, and thought Mogga could have got the best from him in our league.
Moving to us,then suddenly back to Everton, together with the uncertainty which went on with us and them during the window, will have unsettled him.
    He needs stability.

Fair enough but it was something I noticed and it stuck in my mind so I'd watch for it again.

He doesn't have the technique of feinting or giving the keeper the eye, he often just gets a shot off no matter what's in front of him.

I dare say he'll learn but he isn't what I'd want as first choice striker so far, still think he'll do well if he listens to the coaches.

He actually did this last night - 1 or 2 Liverpool defenders in front of him and he had a shot at goal. Wasn't paying that much attention at the time so I can't remember if there was another option on for him

I didn't see the game but I'm assuming the other option was to keep hold of the ball instead of just giving it away.

It's like a keeper blasting the ball upfield when everyone's back.

Looking at the stats Everton only had six attempts on goal in the entire game so they can't just be wasted.

Everton absolutely reek of our last five years in the PL. Circling the plughole, and when they go, it might not just be the one division they drop down.

What should have happened is,Everton should've sent him out on a season long loan at the start of this season at a Championship club where he'd have played most weeks, built his confidence and grown as a player playing regular football.

Yeah, wouldn't disagree with that. Watch his goal v Blackburn back again. He shows great composure and there's even a little feint in there you keep you happy :)

dont blame the everton fans at all, we could see he was a 'useful' lad to have in there but to have him stuck into the lead in a high pressure derby certainly was not a great choice...the lad needs to improve his 'all round play' but we could see that happening in our team, i would no sooner slag him off as i would rate him a top player, plain fact is that he is a young lad with parts to learn and i honestly think they may well have knocked his development back a fair way.

it is not his fault and i hope the fans can give him the benefit of the doubt right now.
