This subject made me think about when we sold Turner to SB for McShane and a crate of Newcastle Brown. It seemed criminal at the time, but how many think Turner is a vastly superior defender to Macca now?
The Allams seem to be extremely stubborn. I dont see them letting someone like Davies leave in January. Not when there is a ton of money at risk. After the season is over that might change but I dont think even 9 mill would take Davies off of us in January. The Allams dont seem like the type of owners that would sell at this point.
That's what I mean. I'm not saying Turner wasn't the better defender at the time, but it's interesting that there's not much difference between them now.
Allam leaves the football decisions to Bruce. Bruce would only let Davies go if he felt that we that the money received could be used to strengthen the team further. I don't think Everton are enough of a pull for Davies anyway.... It's not like they can offer him Champions League football. Although admittedly, he would probably instantly appear more pickable for the England team if he was playing for an established top-half team.
I'd say McShane is the better player now. However it's 4 years later (or whatever) and it doesn't change the fact it was a bad deal at the time.
Also people seem to forget that under the Allams we haven't lost a single player we didn't want to get rid of.
Apart from one point of discontent the Allems have been the best owners of Hull City since Harold Needlers reformation in the late 30s mid 40s when he had Boothferry Park built then brought in Raich Carter.
4 **** tonnes and 5 **** loads. Personally think you'd triple your money. Based on him being English and playing well. Between 6-7m.
The thing about Turner was not good he was, but how important he was to us at the time. Selling him for a few million at the time, told everyone that we'd given up.
Whilst we establish ourselves, everyone of our players will have his price. If we can triple our money, I'd be confident Bruce could work his magic in the transfer market for a defender, it is after all his specialist subject.
They managed to get £10m from Villa. Who cares if he is older, he is currently at his peak. Sets a precedent. If you want these players, pay up what we want.
I'd be amazed if you got 10m but i'd be amazed if he goes anyway. I think there are better defenders available for a cheaper sum abroad. I think Everton would be daft to go after Davies. Not because he's not good enough but because they'd be overpaying. You need to keep him more than they need to sign him.
Why do people think transfer fees go up for English players? There hasn't been a 3 foreigners rule for about 20 years.
I'd be amazed if we got 10 mill. for Davies because it would be a ridiculously cheap price for arguably the best CH in England on current form. You obviously have no idea what he means to our defence and team overall. Its no accident that we have one of the best defensive records in the Prem. He's the rock of our back 3/4...you can count his errors this season on one hand, he's an inspiring captain, leads by example, and is a serious scoring threat on our set pieces. Made Jagielka look like a slug in the Everton game, shut out Suarez in the middle of his hot streak, and took care of Lukaku. You think Everton would be daft to go after him. I'd take Martinez assessment over yours any day.
I do kind of agree with you. People might laugh and say we're being mental valueing him that high but he's worth more than 10m to us. We couldnt replace him for anywhere near that and without him you'd fancy us to go down, which costs the club a lot more than that fee. So selling him for 10m would be counter productive, and the only concern is if he put in a transfer request or suchlike. It's certainly made those of us who were miffed at the sale of Hobbs - myself included - look really rather foolish.
