Not sure of his attitude but if he scored the goals required to push us up to the Premier div which i think he could 3m could prove good business given the huge financial rewards if promotion were to be achieved.
I'm not convinced he would want to step down a division and does he fit the happy campers profile we have?
i would be so unbeleivably annoyed if he went to sotton. A fantastic player and i dont care what anyone has to say about him. In this league he'll score an absolute minimum of 20 goals a season. His attitude isnt as bad as people say, he doesnt work enough but he definately makes up for it in other areas. He is premiership standard and i think everton would stupid to sell there only good fit striker
We're just being linked with everyone because rumours fill papers. If we believe all of these things we'd think no one wants to join us, which is patently untrue because of Cork, de Ridder and Fox (all good signings). If we can't sign anyone of the calibre we want I suspect we'll get some loans in. No point in committing ourselves for 2-3 years to an unsuitable player just to make up the numbers.
Nay, Nay & thrice Nay! I just cant see him fitting in, whats more I think it will make us lazy in our approach play, the attitude of "lets just fire it forward for Beckford to chase" might well develop and would negate a lot of what is best about the way we play.
We have a style about ourselves and is Beckford a honest hard working young professional? To be fair to Adkins we certainly don't hump the ball toward Lambert a la Pardew, so I don't think a player of Beckfords ilk would make us play a Leicester style of hitting it down the channels (though it would give another option)
I doubt this will come off but it's probably true we're interested. I would take him for £3 million though, as he's not been too bad for Everton when he's played and that Premier League experience would be valuable. On the attitude 'problem' - I really doubt Nigel and Nicola would sign him if they thought he would turn into 'Puncheon mark 2'. He's worked with Nigel before and I have confidence Nige could keep him under control and focused on his Football.
While I'd love to have Beckford's ability on SFC, the important thing here is: WE NEED A CB! Not offense...defense.
I agree one for Leicester, (if only they becasue have a bizarrely still respected rubbish ex-england manager) will suit his ego. Not worth risk effecting the team spirit which has been engendered. As regards his age, 27 soon 28, 3 mil is not bad - contracts are often 3 years
more like... your club's backers are comfortable gambling their money. Money earned is more prudently spent
I don't think they were implying that you couldn't afford both, more that you wouldn't go for both. There's only so many strikers you can have (especially with 5 man benches these days) until you get to a stage where players become unhappy at lack of first team action. Moreover, if someone like Maynard sees you sign Beckford, is he then going to be as keen to join you (knowing that competiton for places has just increased)?
I think it would be amazing to sign beckford exactly the sort of player we should be going for a proven goal scorer and if we get him i for one would be over the moon.
Beckford would be amazing but as i wrote this Forte has scored! hmm.... lol Beckford is amazing seen his goal agains chelsea on youtube... he has pace aggression and is a goal scorer also a player that can play for us in championship and stay on the bus if/when we hit the big boy league! all will be known 2moro!!
Saw Beckford play for Wealdstone v East Thurrock United. He got clobbered early on by two tower block CB's. He didn't like it and sulked for the remaining 85 minutes of the game, contributing not one iota to his team during that period. He can score goals though, but he is Puncheon Mark 2, buyer beware.........
I want Beattie back, thought he really found his level in the Championship for Sheffield United in the later days of his career...been watching videos of the old days and I miss him
