Even squad players live the life.

But realistically they'll do maybe 3 hours of training per day and an hour in the gym. Then a game once, maybe twice per week. So they probably work half the amount of time that the rest of us do. Compare that to some junior doctor working 60 hour weeks, the hours police officers have to work etc.

I still recall my Dad telling my brother not to aim at having a football career because there was no money it. He'd had trials at West Ham, Leeds and Norwich at the age of 15.

He decided to follow a career path based on the advice and enrolled in catering college and stopped playing.

About 3 years later the Premier League started.

My brother became a bit miffed.

 

Plus the time they are studying the opposition, learning tactics, dealing with the press, photoshots for the club, etc.

I'm not saying that they have a terrible life and they work 18hrs a day. But i'm pretty sure it isn't as much of a walk-in-the-park as we think it is. But saying that, they are doing for their job what they love to do - lucky bastards!
