If a country straddles two continents, as in the case of Russia, well then it can attach itself to either, although I've not heard it described as being an Asian country before. 110 million of its estimated 144 million people live in the European part, so it would be quite wrong to call it an Asian country. There are very few large cities in the Asian republics, lots and lots of land but very sparsely populated.
