Southgate's comment "We don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Philips" shows his total paucity of tactical nous. If that's the summit of his thought processes we're doomed. Denmark with a less talented squad played a superb pressing game and outplayed us for much of the game. Watch some of the 'minnows' of this tournament play with an attacking freedom and slickness of passing and movement that makes our team look pedestrian. I'll say it yet again Southgate is the problem...

We have a striker that can't go past anyone and drops so deep he's practically a midfielder. A defenders dream, just let him go. We have, arguably our 3rd/4th choice right back, playing at left back. We play 2 holding midfielders. The top premier league English goal scorer sat on the bench and we bring Connor Gallagher on ffs.

I hate to say it because I love Eze for obvious reasons but I thought he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights when he came on. Seemed completely off the pace and lacked energy and awareness. Though it's no doubt Southgate's fault for filling his head with guff before he came on.
The 3 that came on at the same time got just over 20 minutes and the last 10 at least Pickford was going pure Route 1. Difficult for them to make much impact but I thought Eze did more than Bowen or Watkins.
I hope Southgate goes 4 3 3 for Slovenia hopefully with Shaw at LB, Wharton, Bellingham, and Eze as the 6 8 and 10, and 2 proper wide men each side of Kane, Saka and Gordon I guess.
