It's been said that the fans shouldn't suffer in terms of points deduction but say that to Bolton, Bury and Macclesfield fans. What had they done wrong? A fine will do nothing. Points deductions will hurt with a greater risk of relegation if you're Arsenal.
I’ve thought about this in the sense are points deductions/ kicked out of Europe for x years, really fair because that punishes the fans/players who did nothing wrong. And tbf to the fans of the ‘big 6’ they’ve protested and helped in getting it stopped but they’re all saying now they shouldn’t be punished with points deductions etc. But as you say there’s never these types of protests by the big 6 when clubs go into administration and face points deductions. The big 6 have to be heavily punished IMO, fines arent enough for me.
Its probably not possible due to business laws, but I think the best punishment would be forcing them to adopt a German-style 50+1 ownership model. The fans would have more say, meaning they couldn't try and pull something like this again, they would be financially hamstrung for a few years while the system embeds itself, and it moves these organisations more towards being proper clubs. It might also provide a model for other clubs to move towards the same kind of thing.
It's always the fans who suffer. We suffered in the fifties because we had been caught doing what every other top team was doing, and the penalties were massive and far reaching. The fans suffered. More recently Swindon got relegated because they were cooking the books, us being the lucky benefiaries. Tottenham got a large points deduction, later reduced, but still the fans suffered. Bury, Macclesfield were ran that badly that they folded. The fans suffered. Multiple clubs have suffered penalties because of incompetent management leading to administration. The fans suffered. These six absolutely must be punished heavily. I'd say maybe a £30m fine each, to be spread down to the pyramid they so despise, ( apart from it being handy to steal young players from), a ban from Euefa comps, and maybe a transfer ban. I'm not in favour of points deductions for this, as it is debauching the competition, which is the very charge levelled against them in the first place. Of course, the fans will suffer and they don't deserve to. But none of us did.
This whole Super League bollocks was a childish response by these 12 clubs (Particularly the English teams). Theyve been happy playing in the Champions League every season but the moment their regular appearances have been threatened they decide to cast the likes of Everton, Leicester off. They basically happy playing football, as long as they are head and shoulders above the rest and winning all the time. The moment they come up against some competition, sport and financial, they've stormed off and taken their ball with them.
Spot on. And these six look at Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG, and see the amount of relatively easy games they get. They want some of that too. They don't want to be 3-0 up in game against a ****e outfit and still see themselves being hassled, tackled and made to work to see the game out. This doesn't happen elsewhere, and you can tell from the self pitying remarks of the managers of these six clubs here, how much it irks them that it happens here.
Chief execs of Chelsea, Man u, Man city, Liverpool and Arsenal forced out of premier league advisory commitees; https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56931186
https://www.skysports.com/football/...-to-premier-league-over-failed-breakaway-plot So it looks like £3.5m fine for these six clubs but there will be a bigger fine and 30 point deduction if they do it again. Slap in the face for all of these clubs who have had points deductions and subsequent relegations/kicked out of league. What is 3.5 million to these clubs - pocket money.
I'm stunned at this. They would have been better off just forgetting about it, lesson learned. This is an embarrassment.
first read the initial 'click bait' headline reading 30M fine and 30 point reduction...actually thought the point reduction a wee bit harsh so read the full article and find it will actually be less than what they will pay in a month for wages, absolute joke. yet break the FFP if you are not a big six club and get far worse!!
Football at the higher level is subject to so much corruption its scary.....All it does it give a kick in the nuts to lower league clubs and their supporters as they really don't give a stuff about clubs outside the Premier League and only the top half of that league as well.
So it works out at about 10-15% of the prize money that each of these clubs got last season. Absolute joke but I’m not at all surprised.
Imagine being in charge of the FA or Premier league when all your actual job is, is to bend over a barrel and get shafted by the 'big' clubs. Who the **** would want to be that gutless and spineless yet call themselves a 'leader' of those organisations.
I think there are two things to this. Involvement in the ESL wouldn't have affected the ability of these clubs to play in the Premier League. It would only have been an infraction if competition rules dictate which other competitions they are allowed to enter. If no such rules exist, punishment should have been meted out solely by the FA as the national governing body. An agreement that any further attempts to join breakaway competitions will result in a 25million quid fine and a 30 point deduction suggests that either, there is no intention on the part of the clubs to do so or if they do go, they'll be closing the door and won't be coming back.
The fine is going towards grass roots and community projects. Whilst it will be welcome money, I would love the grassroots game to tell the to shove it up their arses
