    It's JP Morgan and it's $6b.

£500b would be the size of an entire country's economy.

Does any one else think the Premier league will just end up bottling it after a load of bluster and the 6 clubs will be allowed to remain in the domestic league ?

Uefa of course will kick them out of there own competitions...so it will be Champions league v Super league both crap formats imho vying for fans attention and Tv's money.

One of the worst things UEFA did was including four clubs per country. Should be two/three clubs per country; domestic league winners and domestic cup winners. If the domestic league winners are also the domestic cup winners, 2nd in the league play a play-off qualifying game against domestic cup runners-up.

Why should finishing third or fourth in the league make you good enough for the 'Champions League'?

Can you imagine how great it would be if Wigan qualified for the Champions League after winning the FA Cup, or if we won against Arsenal?

There's only four leagues that get four places and it's because they're much higher quality leagues than the others, you can make a far better case for not giving ****e countries,(like Scotland :emoticon-0136-giggl), any places at all.

I get this argument because of the disparity between the big clubs and the clubs in L1 and L2 but if anyone bailed them out would that not encourage more clubs to take higher risks knowing they had a safety net/bailout if it went tits up?

That's the sort of attitude behind the Super League.

Dynamo Zagreb knocked Super Spurs out of the Europa League and their manager's in prison. Croatia's domestic league isn't great but they should still have the opportunity to play in UEFA competitions.

The bigger issue is clubs not getting into the mess Bury got into the first place.

You could bail clubs out of financial mess whilst still punishing them with points deductions as a deterrent.

Fair point, I think there's a load of bluster at the moment from the powers to be, but my fear is when "the **** hits the fan" the power's to be ,won't have the stomach for the fight.

Even a tired, old dog will bite when provoked enough.

UEFA, PL, FIFA etc. have more to lose by capitulating to the greed and arrogance of 12 clubs than throwing the book at them. It's not just principles at stake; for them, it's their own money as well.

The way UEFA have done the Champions league, giving access to the likes of Scotland and Croatia among many others to wealth beyond the clubs in those leagues who don't qualify has ruined those leagues. They are a one or two horse race in many countries and the gap is ever widening.

Is this really the work of American businessmen? Yes, they've made the NBA and NFL boring and sterile but greedy businessmen pervade the west and have been working on European football for a long time.

It seems to me - and I am admittedly not as informed as the average UK reader here - that if UEFA hadn't let the rich clubs get richer for so long this kind of thing would never have come to pass.
