FA Cup Round Three

There were two major shocks in Round Three, with Premier League sides Montenegro and England crashing out to Championship opposition. Montenegro went down 3-1 in Austria, while England sufffered a 1-0 defeat in Romania.

Two ties need to be replayed after France and Germany shared four goals and Premier Leagu Norway were held to a 3-3 draw by run away Championship leaders Sweden.

The 10 point gap between Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan means that those in the top six are guaranteed at least a playoff spot, with the top three the realistic candidates for a top two automatic spot.
Latvia have only two games left; at home to Kazakhstan and away to Liechtenstein. Belarus have Azerbaijan at home and face trips to Cyprus and Luxembourg. The Faroe Islands, who for me have been the surprise package, are home to Estonia and away to Georgia and Moldova.

If I do another season of this I'll extend the numbers to include the bottom 7 sides from [this season's] Championship. With 24 sides I can have an eastern section and western section of 12 sides each, with 4 seeded sides in each section getting a bye to round two.

 

Championship latest



Bulgaria are almost there, after a 4-1 win over Austria. It’s going to be a mad scramble for the playoff places with any-one in the top half still in with a shout.
At the bottom, Slovakia beat Serbia 4-2 to keep their very slim survival hopes alive. Wales were held 0-0 at home by Turkey and look likely to be joining the Slovaks in League One
