Liverpool were schooled. With El Classico on Saturday it isn't a stretch to think Ancelotti's plan was to ride out the initial pressure, kill it by half time, bring off key players, keep the ball comfortably and ride out the game.
I see that Rodgers reckoned his side was better in the second half. I suppose it didn't occur to him that Real had done what they came to do, decided at HT that they weren't Southampton, and cruised the rest of the game instead.
I remember Ferguson (or maybe Giggs) vindicating the change of shirt at half time by saying we were better in the second half. Same conclusion as you state. Never occurred to them 3-0 half time and cruise (unless its a Koeman side when you stick the knife in)
Fran, you are so cruel ! Poor old Lovren - cant imagine that he thought Anfield was such a great place last night ! His decision.
Rodgers : "Adam Lallana came on and was tireless in his work rate. That is the minimum here at Liverpool - you need to press, you need to work. Young Adam came on and did that very well." He's 26 you silly sod.
He's created all his own problems, I find it pretty darn amusing. Shame Rickie didn't get a chapter in his book about playing against Real, but not too surprising.
It's great to see one of those "magical Anfield european nights". You know, the one where they actually sing (well for 10 mins at the start) instead of it being utterly silent like it is for the vast majority of their league & domestic cup games.
"The last time I played at the Bernabeu, I got chills when I heard "Real Madrid Ale, Ale" (I looked that up). I'd like to listen to it all the time. My head is already at Real Madrid." Dejan Lovren
@premleagueowl: If, as Dejan Lovren did, you go big and bold about your need to join a new club and play in the CL, you better be good when you get there. @JamesMawFFT: Tempting to suggest Dejan Lovren swapping his Southampton shirt for a Liverpool one has been a bigger issue thus far. @Ryn_Bru: You'll Never Walk Alone. Unless you're meant to be being marked by Dejan Lovren. #YNWA @ThoseScouseLads: Sometimes I remember that we paid £20m for Dejan Lovren and I just start weeping uncontrollably
Lovren is reverting to that obscure CB from Lyon 'who kept making errors in defence and why on earth would anyone want him' type. What he needs is a brilliant CB, with a wise head, playing next to him. But he plays for us.
Funny, really. Because Dejan said when he signed for us that his career went into decline somewhat because he left Zagreb too soon, it was too big a jump and he felt that he was under too much pressure at Lyon. So much for learning your lesson.
