although a good idea, IMO it would be wrong to have championship, league 1 or league 2 side in the Champions league. A side from the championship could well win the COC for example. - is that fair on teams that play in the top flight, week in week out? Then there's the finalists of the cup's that could end up also making it into the new EL equivalent. - that could easily be a "weaker" team too, and it's even more of a kick in the nuts to the sides who do well in the premiership but don't make it. whilst I think the idea is brilliant to get every club taking the domestic trophies seriously, I don't think it's fair that a knock out competition is the best way of judging who goes into the european cups. - Not when there's a 38 game season, which is about performance over many more games. if this was to happen, it will devalue the premiership too. The CL needs to have the best european teams, not become some trophy where random wildcards can make it by having a successful cup run. Again, it'll just devalue the competition. I think that they've got it pretty much spot on as it is, but they just need to do some tweaking to the current system of who gets in from which country, IMO. As I said yesterday, IMO, there's no way the Bundesliga should have as many entries as the EPL. As notso (i think) said, they also need to make the EL a more exciting competition. A good start would be to make the prize money better somehow.
They could make it more exciting by stopping the teams knocked out of the C/L,coming in,and make the Thing a knock out from the off
Why not have a trade-off - the clubs that top their group in the Europa League get into the Champions League? That'll increase interest and see commitment!
