It's the Champions League. Being Europe League champions getting you into the Champions league, a team that manages 4th has won nothing and is champion of nothing, having an actual champion in the Champions league makes sense, the only Champions in the CL would be the league winners and the EL winner. The rest are making up the numbers So yeah, it is a good idea to reward success and will benefit the EL as well and add another route for teams that normally have no chance at in their league, as it is the CL spots in La Liga and the PL as well as other leagues are pretty much sewn up. Teams that qualify or have a chance of qualification will not like this, no surprise there now that they have meaning to it they can stop dropping failing teams from the CL into the EL as well

i think this is a good move by uefa and about time too. there is a CLEAR link where failures in the CL drop into this comp so why should the winner of this not jump into the CL. i think personally the winners of this usually will be from a big country and could already be CL qualified though... not always but they could be so what happens then?
they should have it though that if the winner has already qualified for the CL that the runner up does not go at the expense of a league finishing place, as for the extra spot needed. UEFA will probably steal a place from a lower league as usual, just pay off their FA and be done with it
Your last trophy was the FA Cup in 2005 was it not? We won the CL four days after (I'm guessing this is where you are being picky), the FA Cup the following season and the League Cup last season. If you are going to count the Charity Shield then I guess you need to count the Super Cup too

2nd, 3rd or 4th finish in the league does not make you a champion. Euro cup winners deserve it more imo.
Glad they've done this. Now all they need to do is stop CL clubs entering in the later stages for failing to perform in the CL and the EL would be a much better trophy and taken far more sseriously.
Need to make the FA Cup more intetesting to clubs now too. I say increase the £1.8m winning pot to at least £10m and give it the fourth CL spot too.
Agree. Champion's League should be for champions only, but I'd say EL winners are at least some sort of European champions, as opposed to second, third and fourth placed teams. Disagree about CL winners who finish fifth though, and so do Uefa (obviously): and so did the FA in 2004 when they assured both Chelsea and Arsenal before their CL quarter-final that should either of them win the CL but finish fifth in the league, then the fourth placed team would be demoted to the then UEFA Cup.
That would be a very boring competition. There would be far fewer games, so less money for clubs, less money from sponsors so smaller prize money. And lots of the games would be the likes of S.S. Murata vs Real Madrid; pointless. Look how much people love the Club World Cup... *drops mic*
But then, as usual, they bottled it a year later when we won the CL and finished fifth. They refused to make a decision!
Said it before and I'd love to see happen. FA cup wouldn't suddenly result in the likes of Championship teams being in the CL because bigger teams would take it much more seriously. Top 3 get CL and the FA cup winner. Would really mix things up.
Think it's brilliant for the competition, been arguing it for years. EDIT: Isn't some of the drama of the CL when teams like Liverpool in 2005/2005 qualify and do well? If it was just for champions, the likes of Dortmund, Milan, Barca and United wouldn't have qualified this year. That makes the competition worse, not better. Maybe the problem is calling it the 'Champion's' League.
