It's part of an ongoing debate about our supposed 'habit' of letting leads slip, which the last 7 games have shown to be a (Greek?) myth <cheers>

Really? We let a lead slip against Panathinaikos, so perhaps this wasn't the thread to mention it on?

I think GH10 misunderstands what letting a lead slip means PNP. He seems to think that it only means leading and then losing the match. The fact we let a lead slip in Greece and in other games this season appears to go completely over his head. Indeed if you persist in explaining this to him, you run the risk of being added to his extremely large ignore list.

It was the way the argument developed PNP, someone started talking along the lines of it being a habit and the umpteenth time, and it just went on from there.

It should be quite easy to see how it developed, it's more difficult for me as I've now put him on ignore, but it all made sense at the time, to me anyway.

I won't be adding any more to this thread about it, but if we don't let a lead slip against Chelsea for sure I'll be mentioning it again, just as I'm sure if we do let a lead slip, other people will be mentioning that.

"It should be quite easy to see how it developed"

Correct. It develped because you got on your soapbox and refused to debate the matter in an adult matter. There was no "argument" and the only person who has ever used the word "umpteenth" is you and the only reason this is dragging on is beacuse of you, and i sounds as if you intend to continue this further when we next "let a lead slip", something you don't seem to understand the meaning of.

I recommend to the mods they close this thread and start again when we next resume Europa matches, and then monitor the new thread a bit more carefully than they have done this one.

    Dont close my thread <wah>

What is the point in ignoring people on a chat forum...contradiction is the word.

Sometimes I enjoy playing the devil's advocate because it makes a debate take on an interesting angle..for me you only ignore list people who are vile and abusive...a heated debate should be neither...it does show a petulant side of ones nature if one leaps for the 'ignore' button alot...that reminds me, I watched 'the dictator' it's so rubbish and he often had people silenced if they disagreed.

How am I silencing anyone SL? From the various comments on here, it seems people have plenty to say.

And I must admit I take great exception to being compared to Hitler, or any dictator. How am I acting like a dictator, I just don't want to read the thoughts of people who've been rude to me, what's so dictatorial about that? I'm trying to avoid conflict, by not having a go back.

I've already said I'm not going to add any more about the lead slipping business on here, and will wait for the Chelsea match thread, if appropriate.

I wasn't referring to you on a personal level as I seem to be able to converse with you no probs.

But the tendency to silence people unless your being oppressed is a trait paramount in dictatorships.

That's all I'm saying..the ignore button shouldn't be so readily used..I don't even ignore known wums...the more the merrier if you ask me. You have used the ignore button more than most , but nobody has actually insulted apart from playground stuff.

I didn't compare you to Hitler I compared your actions to a fictional character.

This thread only went pear shaped because ignore button was mentioned before that it was nothing more than a heated debate, which I enjoy.

And I only said anything because I created this thread and it has been a success so for it to be closed due to nothing more than disagreements would be a shame. For the record I enjoy everyones input.

But to repeat, I'm not silencing anyone, they are free to go round with their opinions, I just don't want to read them. I don't buy the Sun, the Times or the Guardian, in fact I don't buy any paper. Am I silencing them, of course I'm not. If other people want to buy this or that paper they're free to do so.

I have to say, I think you're being very unfair to me.

If people want to get heated because they're on ignore that's up to them. The only reason they got put on ignore is that it got heated between us in the first place and they were rude to me, not just in this thread either.

Well I apologise if you think I'm being unfair. It's not my intention.

I'll have to buy you a pint at the Bill Nicks now won't I!

Hi SL, and I apologise in turn if I've derailed your thread in any way

Oh and <cheers>, mine's a lager, and I'll get the next round in..

Thanks for the debate, and as I say don't worry I'll not clog up this thread any more with my particular personal battle. I hope to add something more constructive as the season wears on.

As you probably know I'm a big supporter of us going all out to win the competition and back AVB's stance all the way, as long as the refs don't **** us over again like the Lazio game, in which case the comp's not worth the hassle.

    NK Maribor v Tottenham 18:00

Maribor beat the team we thought was going to be a stroll in the park, 3-0(Panathanaikos), looks like we will need to be professional about our performance and not once again think we just need to turn up.

after 2 games played we sit 2 points off the top with :

    Lazio on 4 points,Maribor on 3,Spurs 2, Panathanaikos 1

I never thought that the Greeks would be a stroll in the park, all the evidence of previous games there, suggested it wouldn't be anything like that. I think indeed a lot of the frustration with that game came because many people had analysed the situation incorrectly in the first place. A low scoring draw was always very much on the cards there.

I'm not sure the players were under the impression they only had to turn up to win, but if they did they were massively mistaken.

With Maribor, I really find the situation difficult to call. Assuming we play a very strong team, which I expect us to do, I think we'll win there. But not only will I will be waiting for team sheets, I'll also want to see the state of the their pitch before making any definite predictions.

Well the group continues to be tight, 9 points will probably get us there, but 10 points certainly will, if my maths are correct. Pana did us a right favour by drawing with Lazio.

we have three at the minute right

and we've drawn against three teams

2 away and one at home

best case scenario is 9 points, worst case 0

Think that we'll get 5 and have crossed fingers

I'm taking about 9 points overall from 6 games ODB, lest we get confused here.

If we get 10 overall, I think we're there for certain, 9 and we'll probably make it I reckon.

Your scenario seems to be 8 overall, that will be very tight indeed.
