Carlos Alberto was sacked during the 1998 World Cup Finals in France, after losing the first 2 groups games as manager of Saudi Arabia.

In the same tournament, Henryk Kasperczak was sacked by Tunisia after they lost their first 2 group games.

The South Korean coach was also sacked at France 98, after the Netherlands beat South Korea 5-0 in the 2nd group game

Scotland Manager Andy Beattie resigned during the 1954 World Cup after losing the first group game to Austria 1-0. Weird tournament that one, despite there being 4 teams to a group, each team only played 2 games in the group stage

Nothing to do with "being on right side of draw" and everything to do with how brilliant they've been in the groups (important not to peak too early, whilst showing that unbeatable side).
